Snagit (Mac): macOS 10.13 High Sierra & the TechSmith System Audio Component

Problem

The latest version of macOS X (10.13 - High Sierra) implements a new security feature which affects Snagit's ability to install and utilize the TechSmith System Audio Capture kernal extension. This may require the user to re-install the system audio capture component every time the computer is restarted.

Solution

This is a known issue that we are investigating with Apple. Users who have installed the system audio component from a TechSmith product prior to updating to macOS 10.13 will not be affected. Only new users who are installing the audio capture component for the first time on macOS 10.13 will be affected. At this time, the system audio component will need to be reinstalled after every reboot.

Note: Beta versions of macOS 10.13 High Sierra may experience a kernal panic after installing the audio capture component. If you are experiencing a kernal panic after installing the extension, please make sure that you are running the release version of macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

Steps to enable the extension

  1. Open Snagit and browse to the menu bar item Snagit > Preferences > Capture tab, and click the option to Install the System Audio component.
  2. Open System Preferences
  3. Open Security & Privacy
  4. Under the General tab, click Allow at the bottom
