Camtasia (Mac): Camtasia is not remembering license/software key

Problem

 

When opening Camtasia, the application asks for the software key every time. Meaning, it still thinks you are on a trial.

Solution

  • Close Camtasia
  • Open a Finder window and select Go>Go to Folder... at the top left of your monitor
  • In the section that says Go to the Folder: paste the following: 

         /users/Shared/TechSmith/

  • Hit Go
  • In the TechSmith Folder, create a new folder, and name it Camtasia
  • Re-open Camtasia, and put the software key in once more
  • Your key should now be remembered and the software will be unlocked

If that does not work, then try the following:

  • Close Camtasia
  • Open a Finder window and select Go>Go to Folder... at the top left of your monitor
  • In the section that says Go to the Folder: paste the following: 

         /users/Shared

  • Hit Go
  • Right click on the Shared Folder and choose Get Info
  • Hit the Unlock button in the bottom right of this window. Insert your computer password.
  • Make sure all the Privileges are set to Read & Write. Once they are, hit the Lock button again.
  • Re-open Camtasia, and put the software key in once more
  • Your key should now be remembered and the software will be unlocked

Note:  If you are attempting to enter your license key and the Activate/Unlock button is greyed out, please try the following:

  • Ensure your license key is good for the version you have installed
  • Ensure that there are no spaces either at the beginning or end of the key you have inserted. You can manually delete the first number/letter of the software key and manually input it to ensure this. You can put your cursor at the end of the software key and hit delete a few times to get rid of any spaces.
  • Try copying and pasting the license key from different software. Example: Copy it to a text editor first (Text Editor, Word, etc.) and then copy it from the respectful program.
  • Restart your computer and then try inputting the key again from the two steps above.
