TechSmith Relay (Hosted and Self-Hosted): Batch Upload Supported Formats


Overview

The TechSmith Relay Recorder can be used to upload media files to your TechSmith Relay server. (For full instructions on how to use the TechSmith Relay Recorder to upload media, please see this tutorial.)


However, not all media formats are supported. If you attempt to upload media in an unsupported format, you may receive the following error message:


Read on for a list of supported formats and a workaround for uploading unsupported video file formats.


Supported Formats

The TechSmith Relay Recorder will upload:

  • Videos: H.264 MP4 files*
  • Images: JPG, GIF, PNG files

*Please note that there are no resolution, frame-rate, or bit-rate restrictions when uploading videos with the TechSmith Relay Recorder. However, some videos may need to be re-encoded after uploading and will not be immediately available for viewing.


Workaround for Uploading Unsupported Video File Formats

For unsupported video file formats (WMV, AVI, etc.) as well as MP4 files that are using are using the H.265 codec, please convert the files to the H.264 MP4 format before uploading. Below is a link to download Handbrake, a free media conversion tool and a video showing the steps necessary to create an MP4 that can be successfully uploaded directly to the TechSmith Relay website.
