TechSmith Relay: Completely removing the Relay Recorder software

The process below lists how to completely uninstall Recorder from the various operating systems.  These instructions will remove any files that TechSmith Relay created including any queued jobs for processing.  A typical uninstallation for TechSmith Relay Recorder is sufficient in most cases, however, it has been reported that some problems submitting presentations to the server may require a complete uninstalling (including User Profile directories).

Windows XP

Click on Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs >> and remove "Camtasia Relay Recorder".

After the software has been removed:

  1. Click on Start >> Run >> "%LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\" (without quotes).  This should open the "TechSmith" directory.
  2. Please remove the "Camtasia Relay" directory, if present.
  3. Next, click on Start >> Run >> "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\TechSmith\" (without quotes).
  4. Please remove the "Camtasia Relay" directory, if present.
  5. Lastly, click on Start >> Run >> "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\TechSmith" (without quotes). 
  6. Delete the "Camtasia Relay" directory.

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

Click on Start >> and type "Programs and Features" in the search box. Then please run "Programs and Features" and remove "Camtasia Relay Recorder” or the “TechSmith Recorder” software if you are on Relay version 4.4 and newer.

After the software has been removed:

  1. Click on Start >> Run >> "%LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\" (without quotes). This should open the "TechSmith" directory.
    1. Please remove the "Camtasia Relay" directory and the “TechSmith Recorder” directory, if present.
  2. Next, click on Start >> Run >> "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\TechSmith" (without quotes).
    1. Delete the "Camtasia Relay" directory or the “TechSmith Recorder” directory.

After that the software is fully uninstalled and you should restart the computer to clear out any lingering cache files.

 

OS X

Note: There is an application to automatically remove the Mac installer in this article.

Note: Versions 4.4 and newer of Relay have the new TechSmith Relay name

 

  1. Delete /Applications/Camtasia Relay.app or /Applications/TechSmith Relay.app 
  2. Delete /Users/Shared/TechSmith/Camtasia Relay and Delete /Users/Shared/TechSmith/TechSmith Recorder
  3. Delete /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.techsmith.camtasiarelay.uploader.plist (requires permission)
  4. Delete /Library/Application Support/TechSmith/Camtasia Relay/ and /Library/Application Support/TechSmith/TechSmith Recorder/ (requires permission)
  5. Delete ~/Library/Application Support/TechSmith/Camtasia Relay/ 
    • To get to ~/library you can open finder, then click the Go menu >> Go to Folder and type in ~/library/ and hit enter

After that is done you will want to restart the computer to make sure any caches are cleared out.
