Camtasia (Windows): "Trial expired" message displays when opening the Recorder

Problem

 

This message occurs even though Camtasia Studio works and a valid product key has been used to unlock the program.  This is a known issue with Camtasia Studio 7and Camtasia 8.

This issue occurs when a product key has been used to unlock the full version of Camtasia Studio and no name was specified.

Solution

To resolve this issue, perform the following registry modification

  1. Exit Camtasia Studio.
  2. Open the Windows Registry Editor:  press Windows key + R, type in regedit and click OK.
  3. Navigate to the following registry location
    • Windows 64-bit
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > TechSmith > Camtasia Studio > 7.0
    • Windows 32-bit
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > TechSmith > Camtasia Studio > 7.0
  4. Double-click on the RegisteredTo item.
  5. Enter your name or company's name in the Value data field.
  6. Click OK to save the changes and open Camtasia Studio again.
