Camtasia (Windows): Crashes/Locks During Production

Problem

Camtasia Studio 8 or Camtasia 9 is crashing or hanging during production.

Solution

Option 1: Update/Install Current Version

Use the most current version of Camtasia. To check which version you are using, select Help > About Camtasia.

If you are using Camtasia Studio 9, please make sure you are on Camtasia Studio 9.1.2. If not, download and install here.

Option 2: Deselect GPU Acceleration

Applies to Camtasia Studio 8 only.

  1. Select Tools > Options > Program and deselect Use GPU acceleration if available.
  2. Restart Camtasia.

Option 3: Save Project and Choose Production Option

Applies to Camtasia Studio 8 only.

  1. Save project and close Camtasia Studio 8.
  2. Open Camtasia and select New Project.
  3. Select Tools > Sharing > Batch Production.
  4. Click Add Files/Projects. Locate your .camproj (project) file and open it. The, click Next.
  5. Select the production option you would like (MP4 with Smart Player (up to 1080p)). Then, click Next.
  6. Select a local C: drive destination to produce to. Click Finish.

Option 4: Submit a Support Ticket

If none of the above solutions work, submit a support ticket with the following information:
  • Does this happen with every project?  How large is the .camproj or .tsproj file?
  • If you produce to a different format, does the same behavior occur?
  • What type of files are on your timeline? WMV? MP4? MOV? TREC?
