Camtasia (Windows): Crashes/locks up during production

Problem

Camtasia Studio 8 or Camtasia 9 is crashing or hanging during production

Solution 1

Use the most current version of Camtasia.  To check which version you are using, select Help > About Camtasia Studio.

If you are on Camtasia Studio 8, please make sure you are on Camtasia Studio 8.6. If not, you can download and install it from here

You can download our current version of Camtasia from here.

Solution 2

*Applies to Camtasia Studio 8 only:

  1. Click on Tools > Options > Program tab and uncheck the box for "Use GPU acceleration if available".
  2. Then restart Camtasia and see if it works.

Solution 3

*Applies to Camtasia Studio 8 only:

  1. First, save your project and close out of Camtasia Studio 8.
  2. Open Camtasia Studio on it's own with a blank project, then go to Tools > Sharing > Batch Production.
  3. Click on Add Files/Projects..., locate your .camproj (project) file and open it. Click on Next.
  4. Choose the production option you would like (such as MP4 with Smart Player (up to 1080p)) and click Next.
  5. Finally, choose a local C: drive destination to produce to and click finish.

Solution 4

If none of the above solutions work, submit a case to support with the following information:
  • Does this happen with every project?  How large is the .camproj or .tsproj file?
  • If you produce to a different format does the same behavior occur?
  • What type of files are on your timeline?  WMV?  MP4?  MOV?  TREC?
