Error during installation: 1720, 1721, or 1723 There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package.


This error can occur for several reasons but is usually the result of an incomplete or corrupt installer file.  Please try downloading the file again via the Alternate Downloads page. 

Depending on your system, there may be some other items to consider.

Reason 1

You may not have Administrator Rights to install software on your computer. Login as an Administrator and then try the install again.

Reason 2

On Windows Vista and later, User Account Control could be blocking access to the Windows Installer. Disable UAC and then try the install again.

To disable the UAC (User Account Control) go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings and reduce the slider position to Never Notify:


Reason 3

You may need to Install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (Please choose one of the Softpedia Mirror locations):
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Once Installed, launch it under Start > All Programs > Windows Installer Cleanup.  Remove only the appropriate TechSmith Software entry:

Reboot the computer and then try the installation again.

Reason 4

We have seen that the Avast security software can cause this problem.  If Avast is installed please try the following Avast setting change.

  1. Open the Avast user interface
  2. Click on Real-Time Shields
  3. Click on File System Shield
  4. Click on Expert Settings
  5. Click on Auto Sandbox
  6. Uncheck Auto Sandbox
  7. Install the desired Techsmith application
  8. Turn Auto Sandbox back on if desired
