Snagit (Windows): Unable to view help file

When trying to open the Snagit Help file, it opens blank.

We have had a few users report that when trying to open the Snagit Help file, it will open but it appears to have nothing in it.  We have not yet been able to identify the cause of this problem, however we can offer the following workarounds. 

Firefox Add On

Download CHMFox, the free plug in for the Firefox browser.

  1. Once installed, open Firefox
  2. Navigate to the file menu File > Open and then navigate to the Snagit Help file
    32 Bit Windows Vista\7\8: C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 12\Snagit.chm
    64 Bit Windows Vista\7\8: C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit 12\Snagit.chm

ExtraCHM

Download and install this freeware: http://www.extrachm.com/ 

  1. Open the program and then navigate to the file menu File > Open, and then open the Snagit Help file.
    32 Bit Windows Vista\7\8: C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 12\Snagit.chm
    64 Bit Windows Vista\7\8: C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit 12\Snagit.chm
  2. If the contents do not show, navigate to the file menu Tools > Decompile
  3. Select a new folder to decompile the contents of the CHM file to
  4. In the folder where you extracted the contents to, double click the Snagit.html file to open and view it in your default web browser
