Snagit (Windows): Error: The selected file format is not supported with this output

Problem

In SnagIt, there is a correlation between the image file format type you select and the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint outputs. Selecting an unsupported file format produces this error.

This is intended for older versions of Snagit. If you are receiving this error and running version 12 or later, please submit a support ticket using the button above.

Define Word, Excel, or PowerPoint as your Output type in SnagIt in a Profile

  1. In SnagIt, set your Output to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
  2. Click the Output button and select Properties.
  3. Select the Always use this file format option and then select a supported file format (PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF or TIFF).
  4. Click OK to save your profile.

Define an output in SnagIt and send the capture to a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document from the Editor

  1. Within the Editor click on the Send tab.
  2. Click arrow (lower right corner) of the Output Accessories and select File Type.
  3. Select the Always use this file format option, and select a a file type that will work with Word (PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, or TIFF).
  4. Click the OK button to save your changes.

Define Word, Excel, or PowerPoint as your Output type in SnagIt before a capture

  1. In SnagIt, set your Output to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
  2. Choose Output > Properties > Image File. Select the Always use this file format option and then select a supported file format (PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF or TIFF).
  3. Click OK.
  4. Begin your capture.
  5. In the Preview window, click Finish to insert the image into your document.

Define an output in SnagIt and send the capture to a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document from the Preview window

  1. In the Preview window, locate the File format type drop-down menu, located on the same toolbar as the Zoom, Copy and Paste icons.
  2. Select a supported file format type in the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Word, Excel or PowerPoint output button. The image will be inserted into your document.
