Camtasia (Windows): We're Sorry! Camtasia Could Not Play Back the Audio from the Recording

"We're sorry! Camtasia Recorder could not play back the audio from the recording. Save your recording and try restarting Camtasia. (Error Code 0x88880001: Unknown Error)"

The cause of error varies but the problem is most always related to the sound device in the machine.

Option 1: Update Sound Card Driver

Updating the sound card driver from the hardware manufacturer's web site will resolve the issue.

Option 2: Disable Enhancements

  1. Right-click Speaker icon and select Playback Devices.
  2. Right-click your default playback device and select Properties.
  3. Select Enhancements and deselect Disable All Enhancements.

Not all playback devices will have this option. If you are still encountering this problem, please submit a ticket.

Option 3: Exit/Uninstall AWSoundCentersvc32.exe

We have also seen this caused by a process called AWSoundCentersvc32.exe (Alienware Soundcenter or Alienware Control Center).

  1. Open Task Manger.
  2. Exit AWSoundCentersvc32.exe and/or uninstall.
