In Camtasia 9 as you edit the timeline the software crashes.
There can be many different scenarios that could cause Camtasia to crash while editing in the timeline. The most common reason has to do with the source video files that are placed in the timeline. Below are a list of files that have had problems in the past.
Camtasia may be able to work with these files, however if there are problems, the source files would be the first thing to try to rule out as a potential cause.
- AVI files created from programs outside of Camtasia.
- WMV files created from webinar programs such as GotoMeeting, GotoWebinar, etc...
- MP4 files with a frame rate higher than 30 FPS.
- MP4 or MTS files that have a high bitrate (these files come from high end HD video cameras).
One solution is to re-encode the file using a tool called Handbrake. Handbrake has the ability to set the frame rate to 30 FPS and will reduce the bitrate, which makes the files more compatible with Camtasia. Visit this support article for instructions on downloading and using Handbrake.
If you are experiencing crashing while editing and the scenario's above do not apply it is best to submit a ticket with our support team for further investigation.
