Camtasia (Mac): iMac Pro and MacBook Pro Not Recording System Audio

Recording system audio on a new iMac Pro (2017 and later) or MacBook Pro (2018 or later) results in distorted audio, or no audio at all.

This is a known issue that is fixed in Camtasia 2018.0.6 and later. From the menu bar, select Camtasia > Check for Updates to install the latest version.

Workaround for Earlier Versions

New iMac Pro models from Apple introduce new hardware that changes the way audio is handled and processed on the system. This change will affect any application that captures system audio. As a workaround, try connecting USB speakers, or a USB headset to the computer.

External audio interfaces and Bluetooth devices are not supported at this time.

  1. Connect the USB device to the computer.
  2. Open System Preferences > Sound > Output, and select the USB device.
  3. Restart Camtasia.
  4. Try recording the system audio.
