When I click to create an animated GIF from a video in the Snagit Editor, the Editor closes and no GIF is created.
This is a known issue with the latest Windows 10 release (build 1803) that will be fixed in a future release. To check what build of Windows 10 you have, see this support article.
When this happens the GIF is actually created, however Snagit will crash when it tries to display the GIF in the Editor for playback. The GIF file can be retreived with these steps:
- Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
- Type the following and click OK: %LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\Snagit\DataStore\
If the library location was changed on your computer, browse to that location instead.
- Click the Date modified column to sort the folder by the most recent file.
- Copy and paste the GIF to a safe location. The GIF can now be used in other applications (the GIF will not open in Snagit).
