Camtasia UI Does Not Load or Is Missing

Problem

When Camtasia opens, only the user interface for the tutorials is shown, or just a black square is displayed somewhere on your monitor and the rest of the software is not displayed.

Solution

1. Exit Camtasia and the Camtasia Recorder. Confirm that they are not running in Task Manager.
2. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
3. Type the following and click OK: regedit
4. Browse to:
   
   • Camtasia 2020: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio\20.0\Camtasia Studio\20.0
   • Camtasia 2019: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio\19.0\Camtasia Studio\19.0
   • Camtasia 2018: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio\18.0\Camtasia Studio\18.0
   • Camtasia 9: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio\9.0\Camtasia Studio\9.0
5. Click the 20.0, 19.0, 18.0, or 9.0 folder (depending on your version).
6. Double-click the following value - What you see depends on what release of Camtasia you have installed: 
   
   • UseHardwareRenderingForWPF - Camtasia version 9.0.0 through version 2018.0.3
   • WPFUseHardwareForRendering - Camtasia version 2018.0.4 and newer
7. Change the value from 1 to 0, click OK. 
8. Close the Registry Editor, and open Camtasia.
