Jing (Mac): iMac Pro and MacBook Pro Not Starting Recording

Problem

Recording video on a new iMac Pro (2017 and later) or MacBook Pro (2018 or later) results in video not starting.

Solution

This is a known issue that we hope to fix in a future release. New iMac Pro models from Apple introduce new hardware that changes the way audio is handled and processed on the system. This change will affect any application that captures system audio.

Workaround

As a workaround, try connecting USB speakers, or a USB headset to the computer.

External audio interfaces and Bluetooth devices are not supported at this time.

  1. Connect the USB device to the computer.
  2. Open System Preferences > Sound > Output, and select the USB device.
  3. Restart Jing.
  4. Try recording a video.
