Snagit (Mac): Unable to Record Audio from Microphone

Snagit appears to be recording from the microphone, however on playback there is no audio.

This is a known issue that is fixed in Snagit 2018.2.5 and Snagit 2019.1.0 and later. From the menu bar, select Snagit > Check for Updates to install the latest version.

Workaround for Earlier Versions

This is related to the problem described in this support article, and is specific to these devices:

  • iMac Pro models 2017 and later.
  • MacBook Pro models 2018 and later.

The problem can occur if the TechSmith Audio Capture Component (TACC) somehow is installed on these devices. To fix the problem, remove the TechSmith Audio Capture Component.

Option 1: Uninstall TACC

  1. Open Snagit.
  2. From the menu bar, click Snagit > Preferences > Capture.
  3. Click the Uninstall component button.
  4. Restart Snagit and try a new recording.

Option 2: Manually Remove TACC

  1. Close out of all programs that are running including Snagit.
  2. Open a new Finder window.
  3. From the menu bar, click Go > Go to folder.
  4. Type the following and then click Go: /Library/Extensions/
  5. Move TACC.kext to the Trash. Empty the Trash.
  6. Restart Snagit and try a new recording.
