When you contact Sales to purchase a multi-seat subscription, we ask you to choose a payment method:

  • Credit card (can be used for monthly and yearly subscriptions).
  • Purchase order (can be used only for yearly subscriptions).
If you use a purchase order, you can make the payment with a check, wire transfer, or credit card.

After our team sets your preferred payment method as primary, by default, it is used for all your next purchases within this subscription.

in direct orders, on the subscription page, you can view your current primary payment method - credit card or purchase order

You are recommended to use the same payment method (a purchase order or credit card) for all purchases within one subscription (in our example, A-S00190180).

However, if you have several multi-seat subscriptions, you can select a different payment method for each subscription.

View My Primary Payment Method

  1. Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
  2. Select Direct orders.
  3. (If you have multiple subscriptions) On the Subscriptions page, select any subscription (your primary payment method is set per account, not per subscription, so the same information will be shown for all of your subscriptions).
in direct orders, on the subscription page, in the subscription selector, you can view all the subscriptions that you own
  4. In the Payment method section, you can view your current primary method.

Sales team sets your primary payment method (in this example, a MasterCard credit card) when they purchase your first multi-seat subscription on your behalf.

This credit card is then used by default for new purchases and renewals within that subscription. You can set a different credit card (for example, a Visa card) as primary.

That is, if the initial subscription payment was made with a credit card, all next purchases and renewals within that subscription also need to be made with a credit card – either the one that was used for the initial payment, or any other credit card.

While you can technically set a purchase order as the primary payment method for your account, you cannot use it for a subscription that was purchased with a credit card.

in direct orders, on the subscription page, in the order summary section, you can view a hint saying that to complete the purchase, you need to set a credit card as your primary payment method

Instead, you can contact Sales to get a new subscription with a purchase order. See (Multi-Seat Subscriptions) Purchase My First Multi-Seat Subscription.

an example when purchase order is selected as the primary payment method

Sales team sets your primary payment method (in this example, purchase orders) when they purchase your first multi-seat subscription on your behalf, and then enter a PO number.

This or any other purchase order can then be used for new purchases and renewals within that subscription.

That is, if the initial subscription payment was made with a purchase order, all next purchases and renewals within that subscription also need to be made with a purchase order – either the one that was used for the initial payment, or any other one.

While you can technically set credit card as the primary payment method for your account, you cannot use it for a subscription that was purchased with a purchase order.

However, after the purchase with a purchase order, you can make the payment with a credit card, without setting it as primary. See the Pay with a credit card section in a different article.

Change My Payment Method

If you purchased a subscription with a credit card (for example, Visa), you can set any other credit card (for example, MasterCard) for your next orders.

The new credit card will be used by default for new purchases and renewals within all of your subscriptions that were purchased with a credit card.

To add a credit card and set it as primary:

  1. Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
  2. Select Direct orders.
  3. On the Subscriptions page, locate the Payment method section.
If you have multiple subscriptions, the new credit card will be added for all of them, so, it does not matter which subscription you are viewing at the moment.
  4. Click Add credit card, and then add the card details.
on the subscription page, in the payment method section, you can view the add credit card button, and it opens a pop-up window where you need to enter the credit card details
    Please note that:
    • For multi-seat subscriptions, we accept the following credit card types: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa.
    • Cardholder name, address, and email address can be different than in Account details and are used for bank verification and anti-fraud purposes. To create an invoice, we will use the billing address in account information.
    • The Expiration date should be at least 60 days from the current date. Otherwise, if you decide to return a product purchased using this card, you may experience delays in receiving a refund. For more details about refunds, see TechSmith Return Policy.
  5. Make sure that you entered all the credit card details correctly. You will not be able to edit credit card details later.
  6. Click Save card.
  7. Next to the added card, click Set as primary.

After you purchase a subscription with a purchase order, you can place other orders within this subscription with this or any other purchase order.

Because you provide the PO number when actually placing an order, if you’re using different PO numbers, you do not need to change anything in the Payment method section.

If the initial subscription payment was made with a credit card, all next purchases and renewals within that subscription also need to be made with a credit card – either the one that was used for the initial payment, or any other credit card. See the Change from one credit card to another section in this article.

However, if you also have multi-seat subscriptions that were purchased with a purchase order, and your current primary method is a credit card, when placing an order, you can view a prompt to change the primary method to a purchase order.

in direct orders, on the subscription page, in the order summary section, you can view a hint saying that to complete the purchase, you need to set purchase order as your primary payment method

This happens because in our backstage system, primary payment method is set per account, not per subscription. Please do the following:

  1. Make sure that all of your subscriptions have auto-renewal off.
on the subscription page, in the payment method section, you can view a hint that to enable purchase orders, first deactivate auto-renewal for your subscriptions that have auto-renewal on
  2. Set a purchase order as your primary payment method.
  3. Open the subscription that was purchased with a purchase order, and then place an order to update or renew this subscription.
  4. (Optional) Change your primary payment method back to credit card. You can also make this change before your next purchase, if needed.

If the initial subscription payment was made with a purchase order, all next purchases and renewals within that subscription also need to be made with a purchase order – either the one that was used for the initial payment, or any other one.

However, if you also have multi-seat subscriptions that were purchased with a credit card, and your current primary method is a purchase order, when placing an order, you can view a prompt to change the primary method to credit card.

This happens because in our backstage system, primary payment method is set per account, not per subscription. Please do the following:

  1. Set any credit card as your primary payment method.
  2. Open the subscription that was purchased with a credit card, and then place an order to update or renew this subscription.
  3. (Optional) Change your primary payment method back to a purchase order. You can also make this change before your next purchase, if needed.

Alternatively, you can place an order with a purchase order, and then pay with a credit card, without setting it as primary. See the Pay with a credit card section in a different article.
