Simplify Images

Replace text and other distracting visual elements in an image with simplified objects.

Create simplified graphics to:

  • Single-source images in your content across languages, versions, or platforms.
  • Keep up with continuously changing user interfaces or websites.
  • Focus viewers' attention on important areas in an image.

 

Auto Simplify an Image

Generate simplified objects on the canvas using a color palette based on the colors in the image.

  1. In the Snagit Editor toolbar, click More > Simplify tool.

  2. In the Tool Properties, click the Auto Simplify toggle on.

  3. Snagit overlays text and visual elements in the image with simplified objects using the color palette. Drag the Detail slider to adjust the Auto Simplify sensitivity and generate new objects.

    Adjusting the Detail slider resets all Auto Simplify objects on the canvas.

  4. To adjust the simplified object colors, select a palette from the Color Palette dropdown or create a customized color palate.

Create a Custom Color Palette

Customize a color palette to add consistency across a series of simplified images or match your brand or product colors.

  1. In the Color Palette properties panel, click a color dropdown to change all connected object colors on the canvas. Repeat to set desired colors in the palette.

  2. Click the s21-SavePaletteIcon.png icon and select Save Palette.
  3. In the Save Palette dialog, select one of the following:
    • New: Enter a name for the new palette.
    • Replace: Select the palette to replace from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.

Snagit adds the color palette to the dropdown in Color Palette properties.

 

Add Simplify Quick Style Objects

Quickly customize your image by adding additional Quick Style objects to the canvas and edit their size, shape, and color.

  1. In the Snagit Editor toolbar, click More > Simplify tool.

  2. In the Tool Properties, click the desired Quick Style object.

  3. Click and drag to draw the object on the canvas.
  4. To edit the object, click the object on the canvas and select an editing option from the Tool Properties menu. For available options, see Edit Simplify Objects.

 

Edit Simplify Objects

Learn more about the editing options for Auto Simplify or Quick Style objects on the canvas:

Resize an Object
  1. Click to select an object on the canvas.
  2. Drag the handles in or out.
Move an Object Click to select an object on the canvas and drag it to the desired location.
Change the Object Properties
  • Shape: Click to select an object on the canvas. In the Tool Properties, select a shape from the Shape dropdown.
  • Color: Click to select an object on the canvas. In the Tool Properties, select a color from the Fill dropdown.
  • Align (for multi-selected objects only): Align selected objects to the left, right, or middle.
Delete Objects

Click to select an object on the canvas and press the Delete key.

 

To delete multiple objects together:

  1. Select Move mode.
  2. Click and drag on the canvas to select objects.
  3. Press the Delete key.

Show Original

Enable this option to show the original image behind the simplified objects.

 

Drag the Opacity slider to change the transparency of objects on the canvas.

Lock Auto Simplify Objects

(Windows Only)

Enable this option to prevent edits to simplified objects on the canvas when switching to other Snagit editing tools.

Draw/Move Mode

Allows you to switch between the following modes:

  • Draw: Click and drag on the canvas to add a new quick style object. Simplified objects are still movable.
  • Move: Click and drag on the canvas to multi-select and move objects. Drawing new Quick Styles is disabled.

Tip: Save Image for Future Edits or Updates

Save the image file as a .snag or .snagproj to make edits or update the image at a later time.
