You may need to deactivate your software key if you would like to use Snagit on another computer.
Deactivate Using Your TechSmith Account
- Visit myaccount.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
- Select My Products. Next to Snagit, select Deactivate.
If your Snagit key is not listed, you can add your key, and then deactivate it. See this support article.
The option to deactivate Snagit is not available if you have a multi-user key.
Deactivate on Windows
If you are running Snagit 2021 or later on Windows and are connected to the internet, you can uninstall Snagit to deactivate the license, so it can be used again. See this support article.
Deactivate on Mac
If you are running Snagit 2021 or later on Mac and are connected to the Internet, complete the following steps to deactivate your license:
- Select Snagit > Manage License.
- Click Deactivate License.

Deactivate Offline
If you are not connected to the internet, you can deactivate your key offline. Select an option below based on your operating system.
- Open the main Snagit Editor window.
- Select Help > Deactivate Offline.
- In the dialog that opens, click Generate Deactivation Certificate.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
- Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
- Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
- Paste the text from step 4 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.
The key is now available for use again. You can uninstall Snagit, reinstall it on a new machine, and then activate it using your key.
- Open Snagit.
- Select Snagit > Manage License.
- Click Deactivate License. If you are online, this will deactivate the license.
- If Snagit is unable to connect to the activation service, click Offline Deactivation.
- In the dialog that opens:
- Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
- Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
- Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
- Paste the text from step 5 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.
The key is now available for use again. You can uninstall Snagit, reinstall it on a new machine, and then activate it using your key.
