"Invalid Key" Message When Unlocking Camtasia

Problem

When attempting to enter a software key into Camtasia and unlock the product, you are given a Invalid Key message. 

Solution

There can be several reasons for this error and please make sure to check out this article first to make sure its not any of these reasons. If not, please do the following for the respective operating system.

Windows

There can be several reason for this error but please try the following first:

  • Go to this location: C:\Users\Public\Techsmith
  • Delete the Camtasia folder
  • Open Camtasia and see if you can now unlock Camtasia

If the issue remains please follow these steps next:

  • Make sure Camtasia is closed
  • Open a run window by holding your Windows key + R key on your keyboard
  • Copy and paste in the following: %programdata%\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio 20\
  • Find and delete the Identity folder
  • Find and delete the Reginfo.ini file
  • Start Camtasia and see if you have the same issue

If that does not work, please start a Technical Support ticket with us and include the following files:

  • Go to this location: C:\Users\Public\TechSmith\Camtasia\License
  • Send all the files you see in this folder when you submit your ticket
    *You can send them individually (they are small enough) or you can zip them up and send them as a ZIP file

Mac

There can be several reason for this error but please try the following first:

  • Go to this location: /Users/Shared/TechSmith
  • Delete the Camtasia folder
  • Open Camtasia and see if you can now unlock Camtasia

If that does not work, please start a Technical Support ticket with us and include the following files:

  • Go to this location: /Users/Shared/TechSmith/Camtasia
  • Send all the files you see in this folder when you submit your ticket
    *You can send them individually (they are small enough) or you can zip them up and send them as a ZIP file
