Multi-Seat Subscriptions: Accept or Decline Ownership Transfer

Before we begin

On the subscription management portal at manage.techsmith.com, you can view and manage your multi-seat subscription for these products:

If you need a one-seat subscription, or are looking for a different product (Snagit, Camtasia, or other), you can visit our online store. Please note that licenses and subscriptions purchased in the online store cannot be managed on the subscription management portal.

When someone invites you to become a new owner of their subscription, you receive an email notification.

This article explains how to accept or decline the invitation. Also, you’ll find out why it is sometimes not possible to accept the invitation.

Accept or Decline Ownership Transfer

When you receive an invitation to manage a subscription, you can do one of the following:

  • Accept the invitation and become the new subscription owner.
    As a new subscription owner, you will be able to fully manage the subscription (assign seats, renew the subscription, and more).
  • Decline the invitation.
    The subscription remains with the current subscription owner.
  1. Go to manage.techsmith.com and sign in with your TechSmith account.
  2. Go to Subscriptions > Invitations.

    If the Invitations page is not available, you have no pending invitations.
  3. On the Subscriptions tab, next to the subscription that you would like to accept, click Select and continue.

  4. If you don’t have a multi-seat account, on the Account details tab, fill in the following:
    • Company name – Used for information purposes only.
    • Billing address – Used to generate invoices for your future purchases. Also, at your billing email address, you will receive notifications about subscription transactions and key updates.
    • Shipping address – Used to calculate taxes for your future purchases. Also, at your shipping email address, you will receive notifications about all subscription updates.

  5. If the subscription has auto-renewal on and your primary payment method is purchase orders, on the Payment method tab, set a credit card as the primary payment method.

  6. On the Confirmation tab, click Accept invitation.

The subscription is added to your active subscriptions.

After you accept the invitation and become the new subscription owner, the subscription data and owners’ details are protected in the following way.

  1. Go to manage.techsmith.com and sign in with your TechSmith account.
  2. Go to Subscriptions > Invitations.ownership_10.png
    If the Invitations page is not available, you have no pending invitations.
  3. On the Subscriptions tab, next to the subscription that you would like to decline, click Decline invitation.

  4. Confirm that you would like to decline ownership transfer.

The subscription no longer shows on the Invitations page and remains with the current owner.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can find the email address of the current subscription owner in the notification sent to your billing email address.

Also, you can view it in Subscription history > Ownership transfer accepted/declined event > From.

It is not possible to accept the ownership transfer in the following cases.

You are already subscribed to at least one of the products.

For example, if you were invited to manage an Audiate and Video Review subscription, and you are already subscribed to Audiate, you cannot accept the invitation.

Instead, contact the current subscription owner and provide a different email address that you can use to manage this subscription. Or, contact Sales for more options.

Account of the current subscription owner is blocked.

You can view the corresponding message: “Subscription cannot be transferred because the current owner is blocked. Error code: 255”.

Please wait for the current subscription owner to unblock their account.

Your account is canceled.

Please contact Sales to reactivate your account. Or, provide a different email address to the current subscription owner.

You are tax exempt and the subscription has auto-renewal on.

You can view the corresponding message: “Cannot complete the transfer: subscription auto-renewal is activated. Please contact the current subscription owner. Error code: 302”.

The current subscription owner needs to deactivate auto-renewal for this subscription, and then resend an invitation.

Subscription contains a product with unsupported settings.

You can view the corresponding message: “Cannot update subscription: product or rate plan contains unsupported settings. Error code: 290”.

You can accept the invitation after our team resolves the issue in our backstage system. For additional information, contact Sales.

As the person who was selected to become the new owner, you can view the following events related to subscription transfer.

Event Description

Ownership transfer accepted

You accepted the invitation and became the new owner.

Ownership transfer declined

You declined the invitation, and the subscription remains with its current owner.

The invitation remains active and ready for you to accept or decline until the current owner revokes the invitation.
