Conversations

Add Conversations to your media to build active communities to engage students, instructors, or coworkers about the content. In Conversations:

  • Viewers can add timestamped and searchable comments.
  • Viewers can add annotations to draw directly on the media.
  • Content owners can add multiple conversations to a video. Add conversation starters, pose a question, or let students discuss the content organically.
  • Content owners can reset the conversation for a new class or semester.

 

Add a Conversation

  1. On the Library tab, click to open the media to add a conversation.
  2. On the Conversations tab, click the Add Conversation button.
  3. The Add Conversation dialog appears. Enter a title for the conversation and click Add.

    You can add multiple conversations to a single video. We recommend using this option if the video is used for multiple classes or groups of viewers.

  4. To share a conversation with others, click the Get Link button on the Conversations tab for the media.
  5. Click the Copy button to copy the link to your clipboard. Share the link in an email or to your course website.

When viewers click the shared link, the Conversation panel appears to the right of your media.

To add a comment or reply, viewers must sign in with a TechSmith account or enter a display name.

 

Add a Comment

Post questions or comments to initiate a conversation.

  1. Click on the timeline to move to a specific point in the video.
  2. Type a review comment into the field.
  3. Click the Submit button.

 

Add an Annotation

Mark up the video with a frame or arrow.

  1. Click to select a color.
  2. Click to select a shape.
  3. Click and drag to draw the shape on the video.
  4. Click the handle to resize or rotate the shape.
  5. Enter a comment into the field.
  6. Click the Submit button.

icon indicates markup in a comment. Click the comment to preview the markup.

 

Draw on the Screen

To add a freehand drawing on the preview area:

  1. Click to select a color.
  2. Click to select the Freehand Drawing tool.
  3. Click and drag to draw on the preview area.
  4. Enter a comment into the field.
  5. Click the Submit button.

 

Receive Reply Notifications

To receive email notifications when a viewer replies to your comment, click the Conversations Preferences button and enable the Receive Notifications option.

 

Click the View Now button in the email notification to open a direct link to the reply in the Conversation.

 

Remove a Comment

As the content owner, you can moderate and remove any comments. Individual participants can only edit and delete their own comments.

  1. Click the Edit option on the comment.
  2. Click the Delete button.

 

View Conversation Analytics

As the content owner, you can view the Conversation analytics.

  1. On the Library tab, click to select the media.
  2. On the Conversations tab, click the Options button for the Conversation and select Download to download a .csv file of the data.
