Problem
When trying to save a standalone project in Camtasia 2021 the following error appears:
Unable to save to this location due to the length of the subfolder path. Please select a shorter path location to save the project and media.
Solution
This is a known issue that is fixed in Camtasia 2021.0.5 and later. Select Help > Check for Updates in Camtasia to install the latest version.
If the issue remains or Camtasia cannot be updated please try the following solutions.
Option 1: Save As Non-Standalone Project
Attempt to save your project as a non-standalone project by unchecking the following box:
Option 2: Save Current Project
- With your project open in Camtasia, go to File > Save As...
- Navigate to your main C: drive
- Create a new Folder on your main C: drive and name it: Cam
- Attempt to save your project
If you are still unable to save your project, please go to Option 3.
Option 3: Save Current Project and Rename Files
- With your project open in Camtasia, go to File > Save As...
- Navigate to your main C: drive
- Create a new Folder on your main C: drive and name it: Cam
- Save your project
If you are unable to save your project at this point please reach out to us - Close Camtasia
- Go to that Standalone project you just saved to the _Cam _folder and double click the icon to see all of the contents of the project
- Find the file names that are long and rename them to something 25 characters or less
- Once done, open that same project and update the media that says is missing as shown in this video:
Option 4: New Projects Only
Before importing any files into Camtasia, please make sure they are 25 characters or less. This includes folders as well.
