Images aren't embedding in Outlook
Hi folks,
I work in support for a large university. I have a user who got a new laptop with Snagit 2023.1.1 64bit build 27519. They have Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise version 16.0.16327.20248.
Snagit no longer embeds images when using the share function to email in the Editor, it attaches the capture as an attachment instead. Previously, they had Snagit 2022.
- They can copy and paste it inline fine
- Their default new message format is HTML
- I checked that "Embed images when sending email" is checked
- I tried toggling the above setting on and off, but no luck
- On my test machine with the same version of Snagit it works fine. (Outlook build 16.0.16130.20454 64-bit )
Do you have any suggestions on what to try next?
Thank you,
Jesse

Hi folks,
Any ideas about his issue?
Thanks!

Well, I just tested it and it's true, regrettably. Newer versions of Outlook 365 have changed where/how they store the Outlook version number. We need that version in order to test some Outlook settings to see if it is possible to embed images.
I logged a bug so we can try to figure out how else to get that information. There isn't an obvious workaround I can offer at this time, hopefully we can get a fix in an upcoming release (no promises though).

Thank you for the follow-up! I was most interested in confirming the issue was real and not something we were missing. We have a few dozen snagit users in our environment, and the workaround of cutting and pasting into a new email will do for now.
Best,
Jesse

This is not an official or supported solution to this problem, but you might try modifying the Windows Registry as follows::
- Go to this location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\OUTLOOK.EXE
- Change the "(Default)" value to be: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\outlook.exe
When I did that, Snagit will now embed the images in the email. Again, this is not an official or supported solution, but this may help until we either release a fix or Microsoft decides to change something again.

Hey folks,
I tried the registry edit, but now when the user attempts to share via the Email shortcut, it attaches to the Outlook message as a PDF. Pasting still works as an inline image. Is there somewhere I should change the setting? If I accidentally left a default format as PDF somewhere, it makes sense that it couldn't paste a PDF inline and it is possible the registry edit will work.

Looking further, Share/Save As Preferences... was set to last used. Which, was PDF. Once I changed it to always use .jpg, the pasting inline worked as described. Thank you!
