There are several ways to edit a cursor.

You can apply cursor smoothing, that has been known create 2 cursors going back many years. Aside from not using it when it happens, I don't know if its ever been resolved. I don't use it.

How are you editing the cursor?

I'm going to suggest you open a ticket with tech support.

Edit cursor path is a relatively new feature. So, It doesn't matter what version of Camtasia you are using, its covered by tech support for free.

Whatever is causing it, I haven't seen it reported and it sounds like a bug. This is a user to user forum, we can't fix bugs.

in my case, the doubles were caused by my using a non-default size, and color, Windows mouse pointer [ set slightly larger than default, colored green]; these duplicate cursors show up in some of my screencast made during that period; the visual effect was minor to the casual viewer

In Camtasia, I was always working with an enlarged cursor [300] as set in cursor properties, and the Windows cursor and Camtasia cursor would often show near each other, but not perfectly aligned; the discrepancy was most noticeable when the cursor was in rapid motion

if I wanted to eliminate the duplicate cursor, I had to reset the Windows mouse pointer size to default, and make it not colored [white]; both changes were required

all this was reproducible, and, as I recall, made moot at some point with one of the later 2022 updates; it does not occur in 2023

I am on the latest version of Camtasia (23.0.2) and see this (recorded Chromebrowser in Windows).

I will contact support. Thanks for your responses!

Out of curiosity, I made a similar recording in Chrome, Camtasia 2023.0.2, edited the cursor path, changed hardware acceleration, nothing I attempted reproduced the issue.,

If you don't mind, Lets us know what tech support comes up with.

you used Snagit to grab the screenshot above?

looks like you captured the cursor in the capture

I can reproduce that on my system

the small cursor is the Windows mouse pointer

    Camtasia 2023

I made this [unrelated to this thread]; no Snagit captures involved, all work in Camtasia

    used cursor path tool

note that there are no extra cursors ...

kayakman, do you really think chris_dorna is so confused that hes not seeing a second cursor in Camtasia.

In reality, hes seeing one in the Snagit editor and not actually seeing it while editing a cursor path in Camtasia as depicted?

chris dorna can speak for himself

his screenshot looks just like what I got myself when the mouse was in the capture area; I assume he used a similar capture in Camtasia with the cursor path tool

You're assuming he didn't see 2 cursors in Camtasia.

Took a screenshot with Snagit and captured the windows cursor.

Why? So he could report seeing 2 cursors in Camtasia when only 1 actually existed ?

Sorry, I thought the post bordered on insulting.

in the interest of educating you, I'll share my reasoning here ...

chris's screenshot, which I assume he used in Camtasia with the cursor path tool, to get the image posted above showing 2 cursors, had a clue to my thinking

one cursor is large [probably Camtasia's]; the other is small, which I've found to be how Snagit captures the system Cursor when it's in the capture area; even if using an enlarged Windows cursor, Snagit will show it at Windows default size in the image capture

the key question here is ... when chris scrubs the timeline in his cursor path project, and the Camtasia cursor moves around the path, does the small cursor remain static?

like I said above ... let's let chris speak for himself

otherwise, where're just spit balling here

Why would anyone report seeing 2 cursors { In Camtasia } when they edit cursor paths. When they never actually saw 2 cursors in Camtasia.

    The premise makes no sense.

If there were 2 in the Camtasia screenshot that was taken for the purpose of showing the error.

The windows cursor in the Snagit capture would be a 3rd cursor when captured.

You cannot export a frame from Camtasia that will show the cursor path, therefore you must use another technique to capture the canvas. Hence another technique was used to take the screenshot and it may or may not have been Snagit. May screen capture tools have arrows for mock up.

The screenshot was taken to show the issue, arrows were added. It made perfect sense to me.

I don't need an advanced education from you to understand the screen shot.

Already reported the issue to tech support. I recorded the screen in Camtasia. When I export it, I still see two cursors:

Ps. Snagit is also installed on my system, but I did not used it for recording or editing.

thanks for that screen capture; that helps a lot

I am unable to reproduce what you're seeing using the Camtasia 2023 Recorder capturing a web site in Chrome

please let us know if tech support sorts it out

however, if I do the screen capture using the Legacy Recorder, I can reproduce your issue; then I capture 2 cursors, often showing separated in position

  • chris_dorna

I start the recording from Camtasia. Are there different recorders?

    0
  • kayakman
    Expert Camtasia User

earlier versions of Camtasia used a different Recorder than you have in Camtasia 2023; some recent Camtasia versions offered both the earlier version of Recorder [referred to as "Legacy"] as well as the [new] version which has been in progressive development for several years; Camtasia 2023 does not offer the Legacy Recorder version

since you are seeing 2 cursors in 2023 captures, something is definitely not right; let's hope tech support can resolve it

    Found the problem!

In Windows the option 'Show pointer trails' was enabled. After disabeling everything works ok!

    that's great to hear

very glad it's not a bug

I'm not a fan of cursor trails but a lot of people use them, including you up until now Chris.

Since that is causing the error.

Techsmith needs to make some adjustments to the feature.
