    Hi,

It sounds like the selection tool set to autofill might do what you want. You can select an area on a capture and hit delete, and it will do its best to fill in the background like nothing was ever there. Here's an example where i removed all the icons from chrome:

Luke, I use the Selection Tool to do this all the time BUT am I missing something?

I have to do a 2-step process to retain the gray bar on the left. I choose Transparent + Paint Tool eyedropper to fill in the gray to get the effect you show,  If I choose Autofill, the icons smear across the bar.

    I'm a PC user, Windows 11.

You may just need to adjust where the selection is. you want the bounds of your selection to be in a clean area with nothing contrasting to the background in the selection path. Here's an example of what I mean with a clean selection vs one that would cause smearing

Oh, I didn't realize a solid background worked differently from a continuous background. Most of the time, I use the selection tool to edit photos. I learned something new!

Yup, the autofill feature is optimized for screenshots rather than photos, so with the right selection it's amazing for screenshots, but it typically won't work well for photographs.

Now, I will present a web capture of exactly what I am talking about to make this process more desirable.  I would even go so far as to have a selection of menu icon shortcuts for a menu bar that makes my customized menus make it more accessible as I could have different tasks based on the type of captures I want at the moment, based on image, which is what a screen capture is, or a movie would have none or other editing choices.

Here too is a screenshot of a video to capture from Uniconverter that all I have to do is drag and drop a page from youtube or Twitter and it captures the movie and titles it what the video movie is called so I don't have to do anything.

If Snagit captured desirable web pages like Uniconverter captured videos could really be a powerful customized experience and eliminate many problems I have mentioned.  We would still need to cut and slice to eliminate undesirable sections of a page and I think more news organizations would enjoy to use.

As far as the cut is concerned could be included in the remarks I was eluding to with the blur comment above.  Whether called blur or cut makes no difference but blur is fine with me. it should have some of the same characteristics as cutting but make sure the background of the area is as surrounding areas, the same as the tool bar example shown above.

Ever notice Snagit's name after it captures whatever is assigned?  Tame and date if fine, but that should be customizable too.  Many other programs use a naming system that allows users to special characters as they wish and installer programs as infamous for this.

Here is an example of the back side of video capture, the finished button shows a collection of videos I captured, but it also shows the statistics of the videos too.  Snagit can also rename the file at a later time too, right-click on the icon to rename the file on the fly.

Don't try this at home folks, capturing a screenshot of a screenshot editor, but files can be renamed in Snagit too.

Collecting web captures should be a science as this example proves.  Never should dates be used as the modified date should be used to examine a date.  A title is far more desirable for web capture.

Uniconverter has an algorithm to write file names on the title and not a web link, although for news gathering a date and link is very important.  The link should be stored in a separate area and the title should be the file name, describing what is happening making it easy to look up.

This would cause a brand new branch of people who use Snagit if it were this easy.  What more can I say that will help and improve this process?  Let me know if you want more ideas or someone to test these ideas.  My mind grows are processes continue,
