Camtasia Feedback Feature Request Round-Up

Thanks Robert (and by extension, Wendy)!

IMHO, this is a big step in the right direction.  I have recommended Camtasia to countless people; its ease of use for newbies yet available power for, umm, "oldies" sets it apart from the herd.  While I was disappointed in the way the last Camtasia version was handled, I am far from giving up on the product. (I now, however, recommend that friends get the last release.)

One of the shortcomings that any software company can avoid is the silent removal of features.  Unless they have checked with their users (and in my experience few do), they have no way of knowing how many users' workflows they are going to destroy. Whilst I certainly understand and support not publishing roadmaps in a public forum, perhaps the list of features slated for removal – and the reasons – could be discussed in these forums.

Please keep up the great work,

    Tom

As a programmer for over 40 years I whole heartily endorse this. I find the new product cludgy and I, personally, hate the soft look programs are going to. Seems like an awful lot of extra steps have been added. To site one. The fade in and fade out of callouts was so much easier in 8. IMHO. While I was extremely excited that my machines full capabilities was finally going to be used I'm only seeing a slight improvement with the 64 BIT edition in final render. Let's hope moving forward you take heed of some of the things like this gentleman is talking about. At this time i think I rather just have 8 in 64 BIT form.

    Hi there!
Are you clicking on the links within this page itself, or in the notification email? Looking at the post all links are live and active on this page.

cool idea about the brick wall, Nathaniel!

I voted. IMO 60fps video recording and project export is super important. 1080p / 60fps is the new standard for really all videos. In addition, I voted for the audio meter. An audio meter that shows peak and average level with call outs at -12, -14, -18, -24 LKFS would be best. Wish list: If there could be a transparent brickwall limiter on the master audio bus too, that would hold the volume under the peak standard you select that would be ideal as well.

Sorry if I am late to the game but I brought this up at Camptasia 16' right after the release.
I would like to "Select Many" from my media bin using the normal
CTRL + CLICK - One at a time
    SHIFT + CLICK - Select a series

When speaking to the developers they explained that you could simply draw a box around your media... Doing this with over 100 images gets pretty ridiculous.
Can we add this to the docket?

Again sorry if I am late for these but I've had issues with voice narration changes between Camtasia 8 -> 9.

    Camtasia 8
    Voice narration saves as .wav

    Camtasia 9
    Voice narration saves as .m4a

.M4A is a file I can't use in many places and I "used" to use Camtasia to do my audio recordings because it offers the noise removal tool.  What was the reason behind this change?

I don't understand why the change to m4a that a file specific to Mac and is protected  or encrypted. If they are going to a universal they should have gone to MP3.

Wave is no better in that its exclusive to Windows only. In order for Mac users to use wave they have to have Flip4Mac extension installed which is a Wave (or wav) to MP3 converter.
MP3 (audio and MP4 (video) are universal types types that work on any platfor Mac, Windows, UNIX or Linux.

Does Camtasia support relative file paths, yet, in the latest version? I want to be able to put my Camtasia files in DropBox, mapped to different physical paths on different computers, and be able to record and/or edit from these files from multiple machines. Is that working today, and if not, is it on the roadmap somewhere?

Seconded-  We produce a lot of content here with Camtasia 9 for Windows and are about to send dozens of Camtasia Projects out for translations. My biggest concern is that all the absolute file paths are going to break. The dirty work-around we'll probably have to do is to send the translators all of our projects as exported library assets, but that's just a ridiculous and error prone way of doing things.  What we need is a dynamic content manager or relative file path support. It would be great if I could just set a file index in advanced settings, where Camtasia would look through it and the subfolders for missing media- before alerting me that the program cannot find anything. It's major functionality issues like this that are forcing us to look into other products, as much as we don't want to.

This would be a great feature. It is so much easier in Premiere Pro to recover files in bulk because of this.

    Hello Thunderbeat;

To create a Feature Request head to https://feedback.techsmith.com/ and you would search for the item you are looking to request (in case others have requested it before you and if they have, simply vote for that feature). See:

If your idea does not come up, click on the "Continue Creating Conversation" button at the bottom of the window.
    See:

You would then fill out the form, selecting "Idea" as the Type.
    See:

    Hope that helps!

I wish Camtasia had kept the old library files along with the new ones in Camtasia 9.  I liked the music choices better in the Camtasia 8 library.  I do a lot of editing for instructional videos (typically screencast lectures) and like to add an intro for them (approx. 10-20 seconds).  However, there are very few options that don't sound like a video game.

I agree. I miss the old files too, and most especially the music selection in Camtasia 8. It would be nice if they brought them back and added to them.

    Hi there!

If you have a licensed copy of Camtasia Studio 8 you can simply export the Library by going selecting the library items, right-clicking on them, then exporting as a LibZip file. You would then open Camtasia 9 and go to the Library, right click and choose Import Zipped Library then select that LibZip file.
Note that the Library items do contain licensed assets which is likely the reason behind there not being an automatic import feature, though this is an interesting idea.

    Thanks for commenting!

I would like to create hot-key buttons to perform repeated tasks such as adding a fade in and fade out transition. I use only one type of transition, and it takes three steps to add it to each clip.

  • Erin
Along with the transitions, putting the most frequently used ones at/near the top would be helpful.  Or, if nothing else, listing them alphabetically.  I use about 3 transitions regularly, but have to search through the entire list for the one I want.
