I don't think there's a support statement from Techsmith yet.  I've been running Snagit on Windows 10 all day today.  Several dozen video captures.  One crash when playing a captured video, but didn't lose the video and no other problems since.

If i don't restart my laptop (used as desktop) daily, then snagit crashed continuously. Video capture doesn't work anymore because it doesn't recognize the audio system.

Just upgraded to Windows 10 and the tools are not available after capturing an image.  Help.

Update:  I had to start and restart the program and the tool bar came back.

Snagit takes some time to open up in my new Win 10 installation during which time the cursor and other controls remain frozen. Didn't have this problem in WIn 7 before my upgrade.

When using any of the text bubbles, you are unable to see the text entered, until after exiting edit mode, which makes it extremely difficult to do any editing or formatting - using Windows 10.

Snagit does not use the new windows monitor scaling feature, so the snagit capture window and text is ridiculously small on monitors that are pixel dense (retina/4k/5k).

I purchased a new laptop that's running Windows 10. Purchased Snagit 12 about 1 month ago it worked for a couple of weeks but DOESN'T WORK AT ALL NOW. Can I get my money back? Very frustrating.

I opened the taskbar icon for McAfee and turned everything off there...everything. Shut down Snagit, Snagit Editor..everything...then run the Youtube installer and somehow it installed.  I made a test Snag and uploaded...so maybe...we shall see.

I have SnagIt 12, just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. When I try to capture, the capture select area (where I am moving my mouse) jumps all over the place, creates scores of cross-hairs and lines, the whole screen wiggles, so I cannot see what I am capturing. When I release the mouse button, there is the capture in editor, but this is pretty inconvenient. Can you address this problem please.

Pennie I am not sure as I have not yet upgraded to Windows 10 but that does not sound like normal behavior for the software. I would contact support if there is no response from other users who may be experiencing or not the same issue(s) you are having. Information is below.

Let us know what you find out and post it back here please for other users to see. Thanks again for posting and sorry I could not be of more assistance to you. I responded as I hate to see any question or problems on here go unanswered but am also aware that it is hard to keep up with everything or it may take longer to get back with answers for every issue that happens.

    Have a great day/night.

The problem has actually righted itself, so I am assuming it was a Windows update (there have been a couple since 7.29). It was for sure not pilot error, although I hoped it was. The only changes I recently made was resetting the Snagit hotkeys to default, because for a while PrtSc was sending stuff to my Dropbox and I was using shift/PrtSc to capture in Snagit. So made the changes in DropBox settings, then reset Snagit. Right after that, it started working correctly (but I had not tried to use SnagIt for days because of the screen problems) and when I reset the hotkey to shift/PrtSc it did not recreate the error. So am assuming it was a Windows 10 automatic update? Who knows. Wish I had made a video of it, it was so strange.

I have been on Win 10 for a couple of weeks and it continues to get updates/fixes and some things are working with SnagIt 12 that worked great in Win 7, but some do not.  The Screen capture scrolls do not work.  I have tried all of them and in the Win 10 they do not work at all.  I have Win 7 on another computer next to me and they work great.  Still liking the overall functions of Win 10 but some things just are not there, give it time and Win 10 and SnagIt will catch up!

    Hello All,

I've been using Snagit and Camtasia for a long time now and nothing but praise on both products. As far as Snagit concerns on my just upgraded Surface Pro 3 (Win 8.1 Pro -> Win 10 Pro). I noticed that the online upgrade check returns an error. Also the scrolling capture does not work in Microsoft Edge. Just upgraded to Snagit 12.4.0 (Build 2992) with the same 'teething troubles'.

    Regards!

Snagit 12.4.1 repairs scrolling capture in Microsoft Edge.

Online updatecheck is broken on all my machines (Win 7, 8.1 and 10)

    Hello Experts,

I'm facing the same issue on windows 10... When i'm trying to record anything through snagit, it's giving an error after 2 seconds. Even i updated to the latest version snagit 12.4.1.3036, still the same issue.

    Screenshot attached for your reference...

Kindly support me in resolving the issue.

    Regards,
    D M Reddy

It takes several attempts to get Snagit 12.4.1 (Build 3036) to work on my Windows 10 PC. After opening a dialog pops up invariably the first 3 to 4 times saying the program is closing down! Never had such problems in Windows 7 before my Windows 10 upgrade.

Snagit 12 won't even install on Windows 10 for me. I get an error when trying "The specified program requires a newer version of Windows." kind of hard to get a newer version than Windows 10 right now.

This is a new error for me as well. I had been using Snagit on Windows 10 since Win10 went public launch. Only the past two weeks or so I am unable to open the editor without a crash.

This appears to be a Windows 10 issue related to the almost constant updates. Some days OK some not. I really don't know who is responsibible but it seems to be getting better but I still cannot get the scrolling capture to work regardless of the suggested fixes. The quick issue crapware is a serious ongoing problem. I also have an issue with Windows 10 and Google chrome with font sizes that keep jumping from giagantic to too small to read. Allways FIXABLE BUT ANNOYING.

Windows 10 suffers from trying to offer 15 different setting for every function and regardless what you set contradicts app software. It is not for casual users. I hate it.

After installing Windows 10, snagit v10 stopped showing my image captures in the editor. I upgraded to snagit v12, same behavior.

Also, when I click on the Library tab, snagit crashes. It looks like a null dereference error (Unhandled exception at 0x0108F15D in SnagitEditor.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.). A clue may be that my Library is likely empty.

Followup: I figured out the captures are happening, they're just not shown in the editor automatically. I found them in C:\Users\<my name>\AppData\Local\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore
