Snagit for Google Chrome - End of Product Support Announcement
Snagit extension for Google Chrome
Thank you for using our Google Chrome browser Extension. We've valued your support and learned a great deal from your feedback.
However, on 8/31/2016 we will be ending support for this free browser extension. Moving forward, we will be increasing our focus on the solutions which are making the most impact for our customers, including Snagit for Mac and Windows, and Camtasia.
The Details
The Snagit for Google Chrome browser extension will be removed from the Chrome Web Store on 6/14/2016, after which time you won't be able to download or re-install it.
Support will end on 8/31/2016, and at that time we do not recommend you continue using the extension, as TechSmith will no longer be providing support. That means if something stops working, we won't be issuing any updates or fixes.
Keep your content
Snagit for Google Chrome saves your captures in your Google Drive, so there is no need for you to download anything - you've already got all of your content you haven't chosen to delete. You
will of course be able to continue using that content after 8/31/16.
FAQs
TechSmith is retiring Snagit!?
No – we are only ending support for our Google Chrome browser extension - Snagit for Windows and Mac will continue to be a key offering for our customers going forward. In fact, we'll be increasing our focus on the desktop product.
How do I continue using Snagit on my Chromebook?
Unfortunately, we do not have plans to replace our Chrome browser extension. If you also use a Mac or Windows computer we encourage you to try out the full version of Snagit, which has an output to Google Drive.
What happens to all of my captures I created with Snagit for Google Chrome?
Our Chrome browser extension saves those files in your Google Drive - so you still have everything you have created unless you’ve chosen to delete those files manually.
What should I use going forward if I need a solution designed for Chromebooks?
There are plenty of free alternatives to our Google Chrome extension in the Chrome Web Store - take a look at CaptureCast, Nimbus, and Screencastify.

Will snagit be available for other browsers like Edge? 0 -
Hi Cathy;
As Snagit for Google Chrome was a browser extension specific to Google Chrome and the support for it will be discontinued, we have no intention of developing a browser extension for Edge (or other popular browsers). You are welcome to try out the Snagit desktop application, which you can read up on here.0 -
I love this extension so this make me super sad. :( 0 -
what a pitty. It worked so well. I can understand that you don't make profits on it and that is the reason to stop? We love ChromeOS that much that we will never return to Windows again. Thank you for pointing me to alternatives. 0 -

My Chrome app isn't working and I can't even find it in the chrome store!0 -
Not sure why you would drop support for ChromeOS... this app worked excellent in our environment, but now we must move on to something else... 0 -
Nooo. I like so much this web app. Probabily the most used web app in my case. :( I'm very sad. 0 -
With Android apps coming to Chromebooks, their popularity will increase. I believe you'll be missing out on a growing market. 0 -

VERY sad. Wish you would reconsider. 0 -
Up until now I considered TechSmith a partner in education. Pulling the Chrome Extension for Snagit will negatively impact a number of students and teachers who have come to rely on such an excellent product. Shame, TechSmith. 0 -
Agreed 100%. Terrible decision on their part. 0 -
Software engineers betting against the Chromebook are destined to regret their decisions. That said, you have made your position clear and the reference to alternatives is appreciated. 0 -
Please reconsider, in an academic environment it was perfect! 0 -

Thanks for information about google chrome. 0 -
I agree with other posters, retiring Google Chrome app is a mistake. I've been using SnagIt for close to two decades, but will need to move on to something else as I've moved to Google Chrome. While I am an early adopter, I believe you will find that as Android apps are available on more Chromebooks, you may see the masses start moving as well. The future is in Internet connected apps and cloud storage, so you better get back on board so you don't get left behind. J 0 -
Boo. This is a bad idea. Not happy about this. 0 -
That was a real pity. It was a great app and I still could not find a decent replacement.
Anyone has a download link?0 -
The trouble with 'Capture, Explain and Send Screenshots' is the clutter of useless lines on top and at the bottom of every captured shot. You must capture extra large selections of the screen and then need to enter the picture in an editor to remove the clutter.
If you can deal with such an annoying disadvantage, that chrome-app is doable.0 -
I used this method to backup and restore this extension. I pointed to the folder inside of the long ugly name of the extension and it worked.

This is one of the reasons I rarely use SnagIt anymore. That and the fact that it is bug-ridden. 0 -
Oh, I was trying to use a snagit image in Chrome, in the free trial. This is a deal breaker and I won't be buying it. Just wasted an hour. Dang. Uninstalling. 0 -
This is really disappointing. There's no reason not to support Chromebook. 0 -
Please bring it back. This is a useful product offering with potential revenue stream for your business. Screencastify and other services provide a limited number of free captures in order to convert new users to paid customers. Can't see why that wouldn't work for TechSmith and requires minimal resource to support.
Thanks,
