Just to clarify what I'm reading on your service page... - This only works with Camtasia 2018 onward
- In order to get full access, you have to upgrade to Camtasia 2018 for $99 and pay $199/year for the service
0 -
Hi bnystrom,
That is correct on both counts. We did include a number of new free assets in Camtasia 2018, and on the service itself. Those are denoted by a present icon in the lower left hand corner of the thumbnail.
However, for full access to all of the premium content, you will need to purchase a subscription. The entire library is searchable without a subscription though, so feel free to take a look around before making that decision.0 -
So Brent does the Present Icon mean it is available for free download for Camtasia 2018 and how do you know if it is already installed or came with the software before you download something that is free ? Thanks.
As far as the fee of $199.00 per year I can understand that the people who make these need to make their money and they have a lot to offer but, I wish they offered more than what comes with Camtasia 2018 even though there are some nice ones in there. Maybe if the price was $99.00 per year more people might or might not subscribe but, you get what you pay for in the long run and it all depends on what you are looking to create for videos before you invest.0 -
Correct- the little present icon means it's a free download without the subscription. There really isn't a way to tell if you already have it, except by searching your library in Camtasia.
I'm not sure what you mean by wishing "they offered more than what comes with Camtasia 2018"? There are assets on the site that are free and are not included with Camtasia (but also some that are if people need to re-download them for some reason).0 -
To be fair... you DO still get the usual set of assets plus a few more. They aren't taking anything away from you.
The extra cost is for new and improved assets, many of which are externally sourced from existing libraries and therefore come at a cost to TechSmith. You could get similar assets from other libraries (iStock, Shutterstock, Getty, Storyblocks, at least two of which are behind this collection) but I doubt that you'd end up paying LESS per asset that way, unless you used very few of the assets.
I expect that Techsmith still plans to make money on the deal but I don't think it'll be huge, gouging money.
Also, you don't HAVE to pay the fee every year if you don't need the assets that year. And the ones that you have downloaded in previous years, you can keep using subject to the terms and conditions.
Am I planning to sign on? Probably not at this stage because I need only a limited amount of stock content, much of which I already have and the rest of which is unlikely to cost me that much per year, so I'll still be better off going elsewhere. In the future? I wouldn't rule it out.
Considering that this is an "all you can eat" deal out of a collection of about 400K assets (not the biggest collection on the web but hardly small), it's not awful value for heavy users of stock content.0 -
$199 per year????????????????????????????????????
OMG!!
Way to reward over 10 years of loyalty to this product!
Convert that into Australian dollars and it will cost $269 a year to get some assets I would have normally gotten for free?
PLUS $139 upgrade cost?
Plus another 10% GST on top of all that?
So - $371 all up for one year and then $269 a year there after?
Bye Bye Camtasia! :(0 -
I do not say bye bye, but $199/Year is a lot of money.... Make it $99/Year and I'm in. Make it $199/Lifetime and I'm also in. 0 -
Make it $99 / year and Techsmith will probably lose money on the deal. Make it $199 for a lifetime and it's guaranteed that they will. Also, you won't find a decent sized media library, ANYWHERE, that will give you lifetime carte blanche to thousands of assets for a one off payment of $199.
The thing that doesn't seem to be clearly understood is that for the overwhelming majority of these assets... Techsmith didn't create them. They don't own them. They're not a sunken cost for them. They are essentially sub-licencing them from other library sites like Storyblocks and Shutterstock and therefore paying those other sites for them. A 12 month subscription on Storyblocks is $149 for images only. A 12 month subscription on Shutterstock will set you back a minimum of $348.
And people expect Techsmith to pay that kind of cost for them so that they can have "all you can eat" for a one off, lifetime payment of $199?
That seems a little unrealistic.
There's an increasing expectation that "things on the web" should be if not free, at least at a minuscule cost. Annoyingly, to me at least, this seems to completely disregard the fact that the people who create those things also need to eat and put a roof over their heads. What it comes down to is that if the assets have $199 / year worth of value to you (and for people who create a lot of diverse content, they can), then you buy it. If it doesn't (and for me, at present, it doesn't since I currently don't need that much stock content), you don't. It's the same as any other product on the market. Compared to most stock libraries, the price isn't disproportionate. For some people, it will be expensive but to claim that the price should be set to match their personal budget is like claiming that Ferrari should sell cars for $500 because the current price "is a lot of money".0 -
Hello Everyone,
I deleted some posts which were in violation of our community guidelines; that is to say they were not very civil. So if you find your post has been removed, you now know why. Users who continue to exhibit poor behavior may find their accounts banned from the feedback service, I don't think asking to be respectful of others opinions is asking too much.
That being said, if you think TechSmith Assets for Camtasia is priced too high, that's fair feedback. An annual subscription is the first pricing model we went with, but it doesn't have to be the only model.

Thanks for helping to keep the tone of the forum friendly and professional. We're supposed to be here to help each other, not bicker. 0 -
have you read the Camtasia EULA? you can find it on the TechSmith web site 0 -
I am having trouble finding the terms and conditions of using TechSmith Assets on the TechSmith website. Can I use these photos in programs that are not Camtasia? Am I allowed to edit them? May they be used on a cover? Can I include them in a product I create for a client? Are my clients allowed a digital file with the asset in it? Do I need to include a copyright statement? Is there a limit as to how many times the asset can be reproduced (think blockbuster book cover, poster). Can the assets be used on a website? I am sure there are other issues, but I really want to know these things before I buy anything. Where can I read the terms and conditions?
BTW, perhaps consider an image/Icon only arrangement for folks who use Snagit. Not everyone needs the video assets. Would this reduce the annual fee?
Thank you.0 -
Hi lindawhaley,
You can find our Terms of Service for TechSmith Assets here:
https://library.techsmith.com/termsofservice
To answer your questions:Am I allowed to edit them?
Yes, and actually you should be editing them, or using them to create your own derivative work.
May they be used on a cover?
Not sure what you mean by cover, but you may not use any image for print on physical items e.g. in connection with merchandise or promotional items for sale or distribution.
Can I include them in a product I create for a client?
Yes, but not in it's raw original format. It must be incorporated into an original work.
Are my clients allowed a digital file with the asset in it?
Your clients should not have access to the original file, unless they also have a subscription to the service.
Do I need to include a copyright statement?
Nope
Is there a limit as to how many times the asset can be reproduced (think blockbuster book cover, poster).
Nope, but again these cannot be used in conjunction with physical items.
Can the assets be used on a website?
Yes, as long as they are incorporated into your own original content. Content being defined as "any video, audio, data, music, still images, quizzes and any other output generated by the user of the Service."
Also, thank you for the suggestion. We are looking at offering a Snagit specific assets subscription, but do not have a timeline yet on when that will be available. If you have any other questions, or suggestions, please let us know. Thanks!0 -
Excellent! Thank you! I read the Terms & Conditions and had one other question - is there a limit to how many assets can be downloaded in a month?
I am looking forward to your Snagit assets subscription. If you need a Beta tester let me know! I use Snagit several times a week and would give great feedback!
(Feedback Example - If Highlighter had a Pen mode it would allow non-rectangular highlighting. Just changing the Pen color (even when using the eyedropper to select the color of a previous highlighted area) does not give the same highlight effect due to the Pen's transparency settings changing the vivid Highlighter nature.
Blur would totally rock as a Shape or Fill and you could then use that same idea to introduce texturing of areas (think crackle, droplets, patterns, etc) and allow the user more creative options. You could also allow the user to input a black and white image that can become a texture with emboss settings to customize it.)
Yes, I love Snagit and keep thinking of ways to make it even better! Thank you again for the info on the Camtasia assets program.0 -
No limit, though you may not attempt to automate some kind of 'backup' of the whole library. 0 -
Hi Paul,
Two years later and I am happily using Snagit Assets. I also upgraded to Camtasia 2020 and downloaded some Camtasia Icon Assets to that. I would like to export them to Snagit so that I can edit them. Upthread in your response to my first question you said I should be editing them and that they could be used in other programs. I find that I can not export them, copy them, or open them with Snagit. How do I edit them outside of Camtasia?
Thank You!

Thanks for being such a dedicated customer, lindawhaley!
There isn't a very straightforward way to repackage assets from Camtasia into Snagit (or vice versa). In both cases we've put them in special packages targeted toward each product.
Maybe it'd be best to fill in the content survey or post back here which assets you wish you had in Snagit? It sounds like you found something good for Camtasia that we didn't provide for Snagit as well?0 -
Here is a link to the EULA for the Assets and Camtasia below:
https://library.techsmith.com/termsofservice
https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia-eula.html
Aslo, if you do a search on TechSmith's main website for the EULA's (End Users License Agreements) you can find them for any of their products. They are also easily found doing a Google Search for what you are specifically looking for on a product.0 -
I can see its Storyblocks videos you are offering. I already have a subscription for them. Is it possible use it with Camtasia? 0 -
Thank you. Would have been easier to download directly. But understandable. 0 -
Your Storyblocks account won't interact with Camtasia.
Some of the TechSmith subscription content is from Storyblocks, and some of it comes from other sources.
So, the subscription model is not the same thing.
You'll have to download from Storyblocks directly. Like you have before.
You can always add the content to the Library manually if desired.

Can I please add my thoughts here?
I understand the need for assets, however, I hover over some and they are subscription based.
Can we please have two sections - Free and Subscription based?
This way, I can look at what is on offer to immediately download and then if I need more, I would go to the subscription section.
Does this sound at all possible?
Regards,
Shiraz0 -
I could be wrong about this but I'm 99% certain that I'm not... I believe that the freebies are always grouped at the front, with the paid items following on. In that way, there already is a separation of sorts between the two groups. 0 -
I personally, don't use the Camtasia assets. Free or otherwise.
I went to the website this morning and all the free assets always appeared at the top of the page and were clearly marked as free.
However, I agree that I think it would be a good idea to separate the free assets from the paid ones. If you have no intention on buying their assets there's no reason you should have to look at them.
I know I'm not going to purchase anything from Shutterstock and I don't visit their website for that reason. So why should I be forced to look at their images if I'm not interested?
Regards, Joe0 -
Filtering is on the roadmap, so sometime in the future you will be able to filter out assets which are not free.
