Okay, I feel better. I stumbled across a price of $219 for the software and it didn't sound right.
Here's a PC magazine article whom I do trust. It's legit, and improved.Apparently Sony let the software go downhill.Vegas 16 cost $600.00 these days.

Anyway, yeah. This will have better green screening, reverse video,masking effects with the ability to animate the masks and countless other features.
I posted this to a lot of TechSmith forums.Camtasia,SnagIt, etc. and they removed it from all but this one. TechSmith.com A virtual dead forum with 153 followers total. I guess they don't want people buying a superior product.

I just went to Amazon. Version 16 is $300 at Amazon.It's list price is $599.

If my memory serves, it seems that a number of years back, TechSmith did something similar with offering an older version of Camtasia Studio for free. Maybe version 3 or so? My thought at the time was that it was a nice way to introduce folks to the product and "hook" them so that they would then choose to upgrade. (although I dislike the negative connotation of using the word "hook". LOL 0 -

I stumbled into their support forum and their apparently having a lot of the same version-related issues that Camtasia is (incompatibility of projects, promised features lacking, etc.). While I'm tempted to buy it for personal use (my employer owns my Camtasia license), I'm wondering if I'd just be learning a new interface and dealing with a different can of worms... 0 -

I don't know for sure about this product and use Adobe.So I don't need it.
But for the price, I would be shocked if you could go wrong.I used Vegas Pro 12 on a trial basis.And it makes Camtasia look like amateur hour.
Plus, you should have a 30 day return policy in the USA.It's a National Law.

No, most editing programs don't record the screen. A quality screen recorder is pretty much a Camtasia exclusive.
Most screen recorders that came with an video editor suck.
It's been 5 years since I ran Sony Vegas 12, I checked my download files.that's when I downloaded the program.
The workflow is more similar to Premiere Pro than it is to Camtasia.
If your not willing to learn a new program.I don't know why you bother looking at other programs to begin with.Their all different.0 -
I'm not concerned about the $22, it's more the effort involved in learning yet another program that's not the de-facto industry standard (Premier Pro). Unless is has the same level of support from its community that Camtasia enjoys, I don't know if it would be worth it.
I just noticed the comment above that it doesn't do screen recordings...really? That makes it much less useful to me, as a large part of my work involves capturing website content.0 -
I use Camtasia for simple projects that require screen recording. Vegas Pro is a serious audio/video editing suite that goes far beyond what Camtasia does. I've used Vegas Pro 8 for years. This offer was too good to pass up. The only caveat is Vegas Pro only works on PC's no good if you're a Mac only user. 0 -
Joe, I never said I was unwilling to learn to learn a new application, I'm just trying to determine if there's a compelling reason to do so for the type of work I anticipate doing.
Since a separate screen capture program would be necessary with Vegas Pro, what would you recommend? I have SnagIt, but I'm not sure whether it's up to the task.
I see that Windows 10 has built-in screen capture capability, but I've never tried it.

I do have an nVidia graphics card, and GeForce Experience installed, but the only feature that appears to be remotely able to make screen videos seems to be limited to games. 0 -
If you have an Nvidia graphics card 600 series or higher. GeForce experience is a free program through Nvidia that has screen recording. What's nice about it is it uses your graphics card to do all the recording leaving your CPU 100 percent free to do its job. It records to MP4. However, you can record at such high bit rates that it's a very high quality video worthy of reediting.
I have an Nvidia graphics card and I really like it.
I don't know anything about the game bar either. That's the built-in Windows screen recorder. I know it's supposed to be highly configurable but I don't know about its overall quality.
As far as all the other screen recorders out there go. I've tested a lot of them and was not really impressed with them. And I've got a high performance computer.
Most screen recorders offer free trials. Odds are, your going to have to Google screen recorders and give some a whirl.0 -
