Announcing TechSmith Video Review [New Product]
We are excited to introduce our new TechSmith Video Review service! We created this service based upon feedback from Camtasia customers over the past couple of years.
We heard that getting feedback on videos you are working on is a painful process. Typically, folks end up sharing out a link, or attaching their video to an e-mail. Then they receive replies that either describe a section of the video, or at best include time codes with feedback. The video creator then has to comb through all of these messages to create a list of items they wish to address. Overall both video creators and those giving feedback dread this process. What should take an hour can often take days or weeks.
We have created a way to vastly simplify this process, by allowing you to request and manage feedback in a single, secure place. Time-linked comments, markup and annotations, deadlines and activity notifications make collecting feedback on videos easier than ever!
We encourage you to check out the service at https://videoreview.techsmith.com and let us know what you think. We are eager to learn how we can continue to improve your process of getting feedback on your videos.
Thank you!

Paul,
I clicked on both links above and only see a blank white screen. Is this viewable only while in Camtasia working on a project, or is it a paid, support service only? I left the same question on the TechSmith support staff link above.

Here's what I see when I click the link:
So the link does actually work. I'm using Google Chrome as my browser.
The video review seems to work very well. I used it last year during prep work for a holiday concert. The guy I was working with liked it much better than what we had done in previous years, which involved me uploading to YouTube, sending a link, him viewing, sending me an email advising what he needed changed and all that rot. The video review make it much less painful!

Hi David - this is a service that we created in response to needs of Camtasia users, however there is no requirement to have Camtasia in order to use the service.
For content creators it is a paid service to be able to upload videos. We do not charge for reviewers. We offer a free 30 day trial of the service which can be started from the homepage.
Our support staff should be able to help you out with the white screen issue you mentioned.

Thanks Rick,
It's not displaying in IE, and I can't use Chrome at work, but don't know if this is a service I'd use anyway.
Thanks again,...David

Hmmm, I just fired up IE and it worked fine. But I know with browsers (especially in a corporate environment) things are often configured in a manner that prevents many sites from functioning properly. Bummer 0 -
We were looking for a feature to be added to Camtasia.
No one was requesting a $180 a year program.
Thanks but NO THANKS!0 -
Want a bold plan? Integrate both Screencast and VideoReview transparently into Camtasia. One product. No integrations! If it was good, it would capture the revenue I'm paying Vimeo and will soon be paying ProofMe.
Imagine: Online reviewers put comments on the timeline, I see them ona track in Camtasia. That's even better integration than Frame.io has with Premiere-no Vimeo required!
A TechSmith Triple Play!0 -
Personally, I'm finding myself a bit confused with the mention of "Integrate both Screencast and VideoReview transparently into Camtasia.".
I'm struggling to understand what is being asked. I'm just guessing when I say you likely want a Camtasia license that is bundled with or simply includes access to the premium features offered by ScreenCast.com and the new Video Review?
I'm confused because Camtasia seems to already "seamlessly integrate" fairly well with ScreenCast.com. I mean, there's an output for ScreenCast. But as Camtasia is a desktop installed product, I'm unclear on how it could be combined in any way different to what it already does.
Now I *CAN* actually see where they might be able to combine the Video Review with ScreenCast.com to achieve some nice integration. Perhaps after uploading to ScreenCast, if you are also a Video Review subscriber, have a button or link that says something like "start a review" or suchlike.
But the main fly in the ointment that I see with that scenario (and it's the same thing I see with YouTube) is that there seems to be no real way to upload a new version of the video being reviewed so it replaces the initial video. Seems one is always forced into uploading a new version, then deleting the existing version and you begin all fresh. What would be cool is to slip the new video in so it replaces the old and leaves all the commenting and whatnot intact. Because that would give you pointers on where to look to see the changed spots.
Then what would be cool is to be able to have those ongoing comments. I think SoundCloud may do that. Where comments may be added at the points of choice.

Hi Dave,
You make some great points about the power an integration with Camtasia and Screencast.com will bring. We are definitely excited about the future for all of these products.
While we work on creating this future we did not want to hold back the value that Video Review can bring to our customers and the opportunity for them to use it and let us know where we are hitting the mark and where we are missing. Gaining this feedback will help us improve and continue to make awesome products that people love.

Definitely not. All of the features you mentioned in your post are available now, from VideoReview or Proofme or ScreenLight. I recently started linking my Camtasia videos, hosted on Vimeo to a new account on Proofme.com. That's three vendors. The opportunity for TechSmith is to reinvent the video editing and review experience with a single product. Imagine this:
You edit your video in Camtasia. Under the Share menu, you click, "Send review invitation to Sally." Sally receives an invitation, clicks the link, and adds her comments to the timeline via an online interface. Next time you launch Camtasia, a notification tells you, "Sally left comments on the timeline of Project1," and Sally's comments show up in the Comment track in your timeline.
Please notice, at no time did I say "export", "upload," "import" or that most insidious of all words, "integrate." Click "Invite reviewers" from the share menu, receive feedback on the comment track (similar to Camtasia's marker track). All the hard work is done in the background.
Camtasia has a shot at a breakout product here. But Frame.io is close. Check out this demo from Frame.io with Premiere Pro, they are headed in that dire
https://frame.io/premiere
Quoting the video on that page, "This is more than an integration, it's the entire Frame.io application re-engineered for Adobe's panel architecture." In fact, that video is the product spec for what I'm describing, just edit the voiceover to replace every instance of "Premiere" with "Camtasia" and "Frame.io" with "VideoReview" or better, "Camtasia Pro."
SaaS companies have trained us to expect integrations; Slack and Dropbox and Vimeo have hundreds of them. I'm not talking about an integration, I'm talking about new product, Camtasia Pro, with online review built-in. Maybe VideoReview and Screencast code are running under the hood, but I don't know because I didn't have to register for three accounts and link them. It just works.0 -
The frame.io does appear to be exactly what you seem to be wanting. That video is pretty slick. It would be interesting to see if it remotely comes close to delivering the advertised experience. ;)
Of course, only TechSmith can say for sure, but it would seem that something like this would definitely require building an entirely new product. For one thing, since Adobe appears to be so close, where is the incentive for TechSmith to try and match what Adobe is doing? Keeping in mind that Adobe has a literal army of developers while TechSmith likely pales in comparison.
One concern I see is that video editing seems to be extremely resource intensive. And something like this would seem to be screaming "cloud". Just as we today see Camtasia struggling on many PCs that are likely quite basic in nature, I can see many folks decrying performance when using internet connections that are on the slow and rather limited bandwidth side.

I am just joining this conversation on "Frame .IO VS TechSmith Video Review", I see that these posts are over 2 years old. I was presently looking for other online video review options and notice a number of YouTube video reviews on Fram.IO. Base on my 1-year experience of using "Video Review" there are two features I would like to see. #1 "Date Stamp" on a comment added. This would allow for knowing how old comment is and it gives you an idea as to how much time has past since the comment was posted. #2 Has TechSmith looking into being able to integrate and allow for importing comments into Camtasia's timeline. This seems to be one significant feature that Frame.IO has with Adobe Premiere and Final Cut that I think would be the next step for Video Review. I see that Camtasia does allow me to post/ upload my video from Camtasia so you are almost there. Those are my thoughts 0 -
Danny thanks for your reply to my question. I see what you mean about saving space, that makes sense. I checked it out and see how to get the Date Stamp now. I did a quick search through TechSmith online resources for Video Review but didn't find anything that covers this (unless I am looking in the wrong spot) this may be something that you might want to cover in an FAQ. Regards - Mark. 0 -
Thanks for providing your feedback on your experience with Video Review thus far! I wanted to provide a response to the 2 requests you mentioned.
For the Date Stamp, we used to have this displayed for every comment, but we found that it was taking up a lot of space in the comment area, especially when there were lots of comments on a video. We decided to move this information to something you see when you hover the mouse over a comment. So it is still there, just not visible by default until you hover over the comment. This includes date and time. We have also added a notification feed using the bell icon in the top right view page. Any comments that you would get a notification for are also listed there along with information on how many days ago the comment was left.
As for the integration of Video Review comments on the timeline in Camtasia, this has been on our radar for quite some time. I can't say for sure when it might happen, but we are continually looking at ways we can provide a more integrated experience between our products over time.
Thanks again for sharing! It's always great to get feedback from our customers!0 -
I totally agree with the suggestion. Not sure how "Sally" should be able to watch the movie, but whenever the author opens the project file, a check could be done to find out if there are new comments (and perhaps even changes!) to the video, just like there is a check for new updates. Then having these on the Comment track - yummy! 0 -
Hello,
I would like tracked a text or image in my video in Camtasia.
Do you know a pluggin or other for to do it please.
Thank0 -
Off-topic response; moved to its own topic.

Hi Darren,This exact feature is being worked on right now by our product team. We will release it as soon as we complete it!For now, the best work around is to upload the new version separately and manually name it with an approproate naming convention and then send the new link to your reviewers. When the new versioning feature is ready and released, you will be able to upload the new version as part of your original project, and the original link will direct reviewers to the most recent version. You will be able to toggle back and forth between versions to see previous comments as well.Hope that helps clarify for now! Thanks for your question!Danny 0 -
Once a video is uploaded and comments are received for edits and the edits are made, how do you upload the new edited video for review within the same discussion? 0
