I'm sorry for your frustration. But, I'm also a little confused, so if you will bear with me, I'd like to understand better what you're doing.
I'm not aware of any circumstance where Camtasia would let you start recording, but then somehow fail to save your recording at the end because of another file? You should easily be able to add multiple recordings an open project, or have two projects open at the same time. Also, recordings are unique, so there should be no trouble with recording repeatedly.
If you were in the middle of actively recording, it would not allow you to start a second recording while in the middle of recording already.

So, maybe it would help if you described this more step-by-step? There may be a bug here that we will uncover together?

Hey Paul, it is actually not a big deal, I was just hoping that the software would automatically prevent a lazy person like me from wasting time in recording into nothingness. So here's the skinny.

Imagine you have 2 or 3 open camtasia recent recordings, but they are all minimized so you cannot see them, yet they are still open. Under these exact circumstances, I can go to my Camtasia widget at the very very very top of the Macbook pro screen and click on it, then click "start recording", (then the 4 boxes show up : 1) choice of screen 2) choice of camera 3) choice of audio input 4) choice of system audio)..then I can click on the red box in the right corner which says" start recording" and then I begin my recording project...or so I think.

But because I was forgetful of these open Camtasia projects (a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind, by the way)), no recording actually ever took place. You follow me?

I was supposed to do, "File, New Project, etc..." prior to beginning the recording process. Your widget (if that is the right word) simply allows me to start recording while the user assumes a new project is automatically gonna happen, which it does not.

That's it ! No biggie, I was just venting, I will just do the "new project" thing first going forwards.

I think where we are losing each other is this part...
When you start that new recording, you say no recording actually takes place. But, it does! You should not lose any work at all in this situation.

Perhaps your recording is going into one of the open but minimized projects you have open and you didn't realize which one's media bin it is hiding in.

Great! I'm glad we know what's happening to you, but sorry that it was not at all obvious where your recordings were getting off to.
