"Upgrade" is much more about bug/fix than new features. Why charge?

    Hi,

What version are you upgrading from? Snagit 2019 has 4 big new features (details here https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-upgrade.html) and a number of smaller ones not listed on our landing page. Additionally, Snagit 2018 is still receiving bug fixes and support for new hardware and operating systems.

What I'm saying is that we shouldn't have to pay for bug/fix upgrades for any version we may have.  I click on the "Check for Updates" and get told I have to pay $25.  The old basic version of SnagIt (I'm on v 4.1.10) usually does everything I need it to do ... although it is currently stuck in video mode (can't do a static screen capture) and I need to reboot my entire computer to get out of it.  So I checked for updates to see if that would resolve the problem but I don't want to pay $25 to find out.

    Hi,

Each major version of Snagit is supported for a few years and then it's retired and will no longer receive bug fixes. I know version 3 and older have been retired but I'll have to check and report back on 4, I'm not sure about that one. If you are interested in upgrading, you can download the 30 day free trial here https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/ and install it side-by-side with your current version to see if you want to purchase.

Thank you.  My company pays for SnagIt but I can't justify an upgrade if the version I have does what I need it to do.  I just downloaded the re-install posted earlier and it fixed the "stuck on video capture" problem.  So I'm good for now.  Thanks again.
