Will Capture have a "Jing-ball" feature?

    Hi Jkang Aus and thanks for reaching out regarding this feature;

After we retired Jing and launched TechSmith Capture, we did have plans to add a menu bar (referred to as the "Jing Sun" or "OneClick" in Snagit) to TechSmith Capture so I reached out internally to see if I could understand a bit more about the feature's lifecycle internally. Unfortunately I'm afraid to report that at this time we do not have current plans to add that functionality to TechSmith Capture. If having a widget hover at the edge of your display that enables you to quickly and easily take screenshots is something you're looking for, we highly recommend trying out Snagit. We have a free trial available which does contain a menu bar feature called the capture widget that you can turn on by opening the Snagit capture app and clicking on the View menu, then the "Show Capture Widget" option (I recommend checking out the extensive Tutorials section for Snagit as the tool can not only be set up similarly to Jing, but is far more flexible than Jing or Capture).

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with setting up Snagit. Thanks!

    Hotkey, definitely.
For the 'ball', or something similar, could you tell us more about why it's handy? Does it ever get in your way?

So many apps with hotkeys, I for one have trouble remembering them all. Jing's little "sun" was nice to put in an out of way screen location - always there when needed without having to remember a hot-key combo.

    Hi Paul,
I love the Jing ball! I can place it wherever I want on the screen(s).
With a custom hotkey I can wake the little ball and start making an image- or videorecording.
For me it is not in the way.

I then tried the Capture: Searching for the program, starting it up.
    Nice capture function.
For the next screenshot, the same procedure: searching for the program...

The ball is not best function though, it is the hotkey.

Hi just to interject---I'm trying capture today.  I use Jing on my desktop and also with my remote desktop.  As I can't can't download jing to my remote desktop/work cloud--it is serviced/provided by an outside vendor, the sun would still appear on there hovering in my cloud/ remote environment.  I can't save what I jinged in my workcloud, but I could copy/paste an image to word or an email there. If I needed to save, I could save the jinged item to my desktop and copy it to my work cloud later.  I can't seem to access Capture without shrinking my remote desktop screen, which means I have limited visibility to what I'm trying to capture.  The ball was so valuable as I do this several times a day.

Thanks felicia; Have you tested to see if the hotkey comes through instead?

Yes, Felicia!  You describe the issue perfectly. I have the same problem.
And, Paul, the hotkey does not come through on the remote desktop. I have tried it.

Just installed capture today, but have to agree that I'm really missing the Jing Ball.I'm also using a lot of different (up to 50) different RDP sessions. It's undoable to install capture on all those RDP servers . The hotkey I've created doesn't come through either on those connections when they are in full screen mode. The ball was the main reason why I used Jing over all those other capture programs.

Ah, I see- so the 'Jing ball' stays on top, even over full screen programs like RDP, so that allows you access to it when the RDP "steals" all your key presses?

Correct, the 'Jing ball' stays on top, making it a great capturing tool

This right here is my biggest issue with "Capture". I spend most of my workday in an RDP session and the hotkey doesn't carry over. The king sun would stay on top of my RDP and allow me to capture. Please please please re-tool capture to allow for a floating capture tool.

I'll add my input here, too. The Jing ball never got in my way. One of my monitors is always on Slack so I can be in constant communication with my team members in other locations, and there's a perfect spot on the edge of the screen where I never need to click. That's my Jing spot...or used to be. I prefer mouse clicks over hotkeys most of the time so I don't need to move my mouse-hand to my keyboard unless I'm going to type a message.  Minor qualm, I know, first world problems...I can survive without the sun but I'd love it if you're able to add this feature for Capture.

Hello Paul. I really like the JING BALL to quickly access and being on top of everything else. I dont use a lot of hot keys, so i might like to have that option as well.
I may have missed any mention of a time frame this could become part of Capture on an update?
