I simply drag a picture from the bottom tray and place it onto the existing picture. What special thing did the menu item do, that dragging and dropping can't? Seriously, I don't understand. What am I missing? BTW, I am NOT trying to be a smart @$$.

    Its a template driven feature.

Oh, I see. That adds a bunch of additional functionality that I was unaware of. I thought you were just trying to merge some images together. My bad.

I agree 100%, Michael. The "combine with template" feature in SnagIt adds a ton of extra garbage to the image that I then need to manually select and delete. It's a huge step backwards.

TechSmith: please give us the option to combine images on a blank canvas. No steps. No title. We can add that if/when we want to. The only choice I need is portrait/stacked or landscape/side-by-side.

This is painful and I actually use/pay for the templates. More often then not, though, I don't need a presentation or a template. I just need all the images in one canvas. I can't do that easily now.

I use SnagIt 2020, and I've seen this question asked MANY TIMES! I Don't use templates. EVER. Why is this so difficult for people? You've got an image OPEN in the workspace. Drag another image from the tray at the bottom of the screen and DROP IT ON TO the open image in the workspace. The canvas will resize to accommodate both images. Rinse & REPEATE for as many images as you want. Geez, folks. It doesn't get ANY MORE SIMPLE THAN THAT!

    Hi there

    Two things,

First, it's not really a "template" per se, but when you choose to combine images, one of the "templates" available is named "Custom Steps". That's what you need to choose to simply combine some images without using a template.

Second, what Joe Lewinski suggested above will only work as long as you have the option titled Automatically expand the canvas to fit objects enabled. (Click Edit > Editor Preferences... > Editor tab to see the option.)

If this option isn't enabled, it becomes a frustrating exercise to coax all the images to fit together.

    Cheers... Rick :)

    Not sure I follow.

Is this the one you are looking for.

    If so it's still there.

Thanks for clearing that up Rick!  Clearly, frustration on my part got the better of me. Maybe I'll just back off and let the experts help others.

You could select combine images and go from there.
    You can't  do that anymore.
Your forced to select a template first

Snagit-Combine in Template. This (Custom steps) is really good, but it is time consuming to always manually change the order of the images. The last selected comes always first (it should have been the oposit). It would be best if you could choose the order by clicking (Ctrl) on the pictures as you like them to appere

Dragging the extra images to the first image is not fun, when having more than 10 images to combine.

The templates are too bloated for a quick combine of images.

Even if using the Basic Step template, there is still the issue of random image order. In the old way, it would insert the images by date/time.

We ended up downgrading to Snagit 2019, which can be downloaded here:
