Service Outage for Screencast?

    Hi Byron,

There isn't currently any service outage or maintenance that I'm aware of for Screencast.com.

One possibility is that your browser is having trouble reaching our servers to retrieve content. What browsers (name and version) have you tried using to view your videos?

Do you know if anyone you've shared these videos with are having similar issues?

My default browser is Chrome [Version 84.0.4147.125 (Official Build) (64-bit)], and it cannot load any of my videos whether I'm using PC nor my Android phone.  Microsoft Edge (38.14393.2068.0) also cannot load any of the videos.

All of my students are unable to see my videos, even the videos what were viewable back in March.

Here's a link to one of my screencasts for reference:  https://www.screencast.com/users/byronpdavis/folders/SRF%20Tutorials/media/a2a813f3-96fe-4e5a-b538-301b66ce30ba

    Byron,

This is indeed a strange issue. I can watch the video that you linked just fine, so it's difficult to say what the underlying problem might be. Are you linking students directly to the view page (like you did in your post), or are you embedding it somewhere using the embed code?

It could also be that something on the network is blocking your access to retrieve the content, such as a firewall. Are you accessing the content through the same network that your students are? Or are they accessing it from other networks?

At this point I'd suggest escalating this post to our support staff. They're better equipped to help you troubleshoot the kinds of things you're seeing here. Any additional details you can provide would be very helpful, such as answers to the questions I posed above.

Some of the videos are direct-links, and some are embedded in my LMS (we use Canvas).

Students are accessing these videos via school-issued devices,so there is a distinct possibility that my district is blocking the through-play.  I just discovered that my phone will play the content if I turn off my WI-FI, so that leads me to believe there's an issue with our school's filtering system.  Let me chase that issue down before we open up a ticket.

Thanks for helping me think it through.  I'll submit another comment after hearing back from our IT folks.

    Byron,

That's definitely a good lead to chase down. In case it helps your IT department out, the site that is being blocked is most likely https://content.screencast.com. This is the sub domain that is used to actually serve the media files.

    Paul,

Thanks again.for your help.  The district had already whitelisted screencast.com in our filter, but my video content was now coming from "content.screencast.com."  They added the record "*.screencast.com" in our filter and we're all good now!
