Feature Request: Play from Beginning (a Camtasia PC Feature)

Both platforms, Mac and Windows used to work that way.  If you're at the end of the timeline or beyond and you press space, playback would return to the start of the timeline.  That is a real pain when you are working on edits near the end of the timeline and it jumps you all the way back to the beginning. What often happens is that you are zoomed in and playing the end to check your last edit(s) and hit space to stop playback to make a change.  But if the playback had already stopped because you were at the end, then playback would hop all the way back to the beginning.  Now you have to scroll back to the end to get where you were working and you lose your place on your context.

I believe space, now starts playback at the start of the visible portion of the timeline rather than send you back to the very start of the timeline.  You can always press enter twice (the first enter takes you to the place playback last started from.  The second one takes you back to the start of the timeline.

Even easier, you can always get to the start of the timeline by pressing Cmd+Enter.  You don't have to be at the end. So you are in control.

    Hi Leif,

Thanks, your info is very helpful. I wasn't aware of Cmd+Enter could jump to the beginning. I'll definitely use that.

Also, I just discovered the Shortcut Sheet!

    Thanks again,

Most shortcuts can be reassigned if you don't like the default hot key combinations.  It's useful to modify them for ones you use a lot.  If you open the Preferences dialog (under the Camtasia main menu - or press Cmd+,). select the Shortcuts tab and adjust the keyboard shortcuts to your liking.

    Hi Leif,

Also helpful. I didn't think Camtasia Mac had ANY functionality built-in to return to beginning. The key combination is fine for me, and good to know they can be customized.

My only "complaint" still stands: I feel every keystroke command should have a matching on-screen menu command. Camtasia still needs on-screen menu commands for "Play from Beginning" and/or "Return Play Head to Beginning".

    Thanks again,

    Rick

There is a menu option to move the play head to the beginning.

A handy feature on the Mac is the Search bar under the Help menu.  You can use it to search for menu items.

    Hi Stephen,

Fabulous! I guess I had not done a thorough enough job of searching. I can clearly see what you've pointed out, that there ARE menu equivalents of the keyboard shortcuts. Thanks so much for showing me those screens.
