Embedding Knowmia videos in Canvas LMS page with grade reporting
AnsweredI'd like to assign students to watch Knowmia videos, with automatic grade reporting to Canvas (my LMS). This article explains how to set this up by creating an Assignment in Canvas. However, I would like to embed the videos as iframes in my lesson pages, rather than have students navigate to a standalone Assignment. Is it possible to do this? I'm thinking of a workflow like:
- Create an Assignment in Canvas using the instructions in the article linked above
- Don't send students to the Assignment to watch the video. Rather, embed the video via iframe into a Canvas page along with the rest of the lesson (which includes narrative, slides, etc).
- Students watch the video through the Canvas page
- Grade (viewing percentage) gets passed to the Canvas gradebook as the grade for the Assignment
Is this possible? I am not adding quiz questions to the videos, so I'd simply like to track viewing percentages. If students are authenticated in Knowmia, why should it matter whether they watch the video from inside the Assignment or from inside a Page?

Hi Debbie and thanks for stopping by the TechSmith Community Forums!
Ultimately it's possible to embed videos in the method you're looking for, however there is a caveat if you want Gradebook integration. In order to have Gradebook integration you will need to use the External Tool LTI workflow that's in the article you linked (it's the first option listed). Note that the article also refers to the Rich Text Editor (RTE) which you will not want to be utilizing as it will not connect to Gradebook.
If you'd like, I'm happy to open a support ticket for you to get you in touch with a Knowmia agent.

Thanks Robert, this is helpful but I have further questions, if you could open a support ticket that would be great.
