    Update: January 26th 2021:

This morning we released 2020.0.14 which fixes the performance issues in 2020.0.13. We apologize for the issues this caused, and thank you for your patience.

    Original message:

I'm sorry to hear this, and THANK YOU for reporting it. With your help, and a couple other users, it's clear that a recent change we've made to increase performance on mosts machines has actually drastically reduced performance on some machines. We don't yet know why some machines are slower with this change instead of faster.

Could you open a support ticket (you can reference this user community thread)? That way:

    1. We can get a little info about your machine to help us actually FIX the problem
    2. We can get you a download of an older version to use until this issue is fixed

I have the same issues with the latest version on Jan-14. My rendering time has quadruple and the recording/rendering is very, very CPU intensive on the iMac.

Anyway I can go back to the previous version (I think it's version 12). Please let me know.

I just submitted a ticket for this referring to this thread. Please let me know how I could go back to version 12 while you are fixing this problem in version 13.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Paul Middlin, How can I temporarly go back a version to get a bit decent render times?
And does it really work better in the older version?

Same exact issue. I don't use this for anything complex. I record my screen to capture interviews. Before this version, I could export a simple 10min (or less) recording in about 5 minutes at most. Now that same exact process takes 20-25mins. This change happened immediately after installing 2020.0.13.

**UPDATE (1/27/21): They just released a new version that resolved this issue. Be sure to manually run the update by clicking: Camtasia 2020 > Check for Updates...

Thank you for addressing this issue!  I've been seeing very long rendering times on my iMAC over the past week and I am hopeful this has solved the problem.  I was actually in the middle of exporting a 30 minute video to MP4 and it was taking for ever (45% in 1.2 hours) so I stopped the export, downloaded the newest update, and it seems to be exporting much faster! I'll report the final times once I get all my exporting done today.

    Hey there!

I have serious laggy issues with animation and moving things around as well. I've already created a ticket. It shouldn't be a hardware issue (i7 quad-core with 32GB ram).

Thank you all for submitting tickets! Support will get you links to roll back, and it will be very helpful to us to figure out what the difference is between the machines that were sped up by our change and the machines that were slowed down by it.

I am also sailing in the same boat, please help. I left my full-time job to become a full-time Trainer on YouTube and this kind of experience, especially at this time of exciting moments, is upsetting.

    Please do something about it.

Camtasia has shipped an update that should have fixed this problem that was just with v2020.0.13. If you don't have the newer version yet, get that. If you DO already have the newer version, and are still having problems, this is a different issue. In that case, please open a support case!

The latest update that I rolled into was 202.0.13 that came to me on 15/Feb/2021, see this article. If there was any other version released after; please excuse me, but I have no knowledge or access to such resource.

    Please check and confirm.

    Regards,

    Syed H

Syed, you linked to a Camtasia Windows version history- the issue discussed here was specific to Camtasia for Mac. If you had an issue show up starting with 0.13 on Windows then it is definitely something else, and you should open a support ticket as it is not related to the issue discussed here which we believe has been fixed.

I am using 2020.0.16 and still experiencing issues.  Audio is spotty, echos and cracks, when I import an mp4 into a project.  it took 3-4 minutes to import an mp4 that was a little. over a minute long.  it took 1.3 minutes to import a ppt - single slide.  the playhead would take a few seconds to move and again, all the audio issues.  I'm using Mac SO 10.15.7, updated recently.  Everything folks are mentioning as being in past Camtasia versions I am experiencing now.  I have an open ticket, but this is like...my job.  Please help?

It took that long to import? Like just to add an MP4 to your timeline? That should take a second or two at most. Something is very wrong there. This would be nearly impossible to diagnose over the community user forums I think, so you're doing the right thing by leveraging Tech Support. However, if you have not done the basics, do that - reboot your computer, shut down any other apps, and see if it acts weird still.

    1.  Used Handbrake - didn't work

    2.  Uninstalled and reinstalled 2020 on both Macbook Pro and iMac - still not working

    3.  adjusted Midi output/input to 44.1hz as suggested by tech support - made no difference

I am so frustrated.  Everything is done via email - when I call I have to re-explain a thread that is literally now about 20 notes long.  I have 2 colleagues who use Macbook and PC, but are on version 2019 and they do not experience this at all.  It's happening on 2 different systems of 2 differing ages-desktop is an old one, while laptop is new.

I can record no problem, it's editing that is of issue and that's the part I'm trying to do the most of.

I'm sorry you're so frustrated. Generally Support should be able to look up your ticket of course and the full thread, rather than explaining again, when you call.

If you think 2019 might work better (it's... possible?), you can try it. It certainly could narrow down the weird problem. Your 2020 key will work to unlock 2019 as well, and you can download old versions here:

Thank you Paul.  I received a new external hard drive.  While waiting for it, I had to use my network shared drive to download and save video files to import into Camtasia for editing.  That was the issue.  As soon as I imported from my hard drive there was no longer any problems.  While I assume some ownership in having not shared it, I was never asked it by technical support and very likely why the issue lingered for 7 business days.  It is resolved now and the ticket is closed.  Thank you for responding.

ahh, yes I'm glad to hear that the problem is figured out.

You're right- you always want to use a local hard drive and not an external one, or a network drive. I admit, it didn't occur to me to ask that either; I was trying to think what could be wrong with the file itself. I'm sorry it took so long to figure out and resolve.
