Change default type in file dialog

Not sure I am understanding the question correctly.
User can select the graphic file type to be assigned to the capture file and that choice is made inside each of the presets you use.  Each of the few presets can be edited and edits saved so future captures can be the file type of your choice.

Multiple PRESETS MAY need edits to confirm or change  from JPG  to other types. The editor will display whatever file types are in use.

I'm not sure your reply answers my question since I've not used presets before. But let me explain it another way. Let's say I save a capture as aaa.jpg and then another as aaa.png. When I go to save a third capture, only the aaa.png will show in the file dialog. I would like them both to show or, if that is not possible, to be able to change the default to show the jpg. Most file dialogs have an "all" option. It looks like the presets will allow adding a new file type but not one for all.

    With the Snagit editor opened,

In top left corner, click the VIEW option.

Clicking either the Library or the Recent captures option toggles what is displayed on both the left side and right side of the editor view.

    Does this help?

Thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't affect the file dialog, that I can see. It seems the program is coded to force the use of one file-type in the dialog. It must have to do with a recent update because at one point I could view all of the images in the directory, no matter the type.

Can you do a capture of the file dialogue which is showing the limited view and post it so we can see an example of what you see. This could help to solve this dilemma.

The Save As dialog only shows the files that match the current "Save as type:" selection in that window. If you want to see more file types, you can type the wildcard asterisk ("*") in the "File name:" field.

You may be thinking about the Open dialog which has a setting to show "All Supported Types" so you can see all your files from there. Save As does not do this because it needs to know, specifically, what file type you want to save to.

The * in the name field does do what I want. It adds an extra step to what is standard in other file dialogs but it will work. My thanks to everyone that replied.

To change the default image file format save preference

Open the editor then click on the "Share" button

Then click on the small cog wheel

    Click on Save As Preferences.

That will open the preferences box

    Make your choices.

Click the options... button for more settings for the image format you selected.

You should see this (for me this is not showing in Snagit 2021)  :(

If setting to png format...make sure to select True color + transparency.

Thank you. That does allow changing the default. But I was looking for a way to show all types which, so far, does not seem possible.

    Hi there

For me, when I click Save As, like you I see the last used file format. Generally speaking, this is useful for me as I'm always saving in the PNG format. And as Dubie showed earlier, you do have the ability to configure whatever format you want.

But what confuses me about your issue is that I just click the "Save as type" drop down and I see nearly all the types available.

Seems to me that's nearly the same as seeing an option to choose all types. I mean, you have to click either way, no?

    Cheers... Rick :)

Rick - Yes, I see all of the types available in the list. What I would like to see is all of the types in the display window. For example, save a capture as a jpg. Then do another save as. You will  only see the jpg file but you have a bunch of png's already saved. I would like to see both the jpg and the png.
