Scrolling arrow not appearing so can't snag scrolling window

When I try to use the scrolling function, there is no arrow and instead it just takes a screenshot of the screen. I have used SnagIt for years so always found it worked, but now it won't work on any browser or any type of scrolling window, google, email - nothing. can anyone suggest a workaround? Thank you.
