Where is the recording option?
Change file name + save destination
Pause with F9 ans Stop with F10?
Is new version comes with less features?

Hi Daniel,
Due to the redesigned recorder, those advanced settings and options had to be removed temporarily and I think they will be back over the next few months.

Hi Daniel!
Cristi is indeed right that the advanced settings for the Camtasia 2021 Record are not quite ready yet and we're hoping to have them out in the very near future- actual dates aren't available yet, but we're hoping to have the update out sooner rather than later. I'll be sure to update this Post when that update is available so folks will want to make sure they are following this Post.
In the meantime, you are able to launch the Legacy recorder (old Camtasia Recorder) by following the steps listed in this support article.
Thanks!

Hey
There is some problems even with sing in.

Another Camtasia release with a tonne of good and new features but as expected there's no update to the Captioning Interface. What a bummer!!!
What will it take to get Techsmith to allow us to position individual subtitles above lower third graphics? (Kindly don't say use Annotations) We've heard that for far too long.
What's so difficult to add these functionalities to the captioning interface.
I recently did an in-depth tutorial that the developers at Techsmith can look at for inspiration and guidance or better yet, check out the latest update to Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2021 Version 15.
That's what the Camtasia Captioning interface needs to look like.
If anyone from the development team reads this, here's a link to the video (Not for views) (Just for guidance)

Thanks!

Any guidance for a project we are in the middle of?
Does 2021 overwrite 2020 or does it install in parallel?
If I have issues can I revert to 2020 easily assuming I open existing projects, and do a "Save As".
I would love to use the new transitions on my current project...1 -
PS: I'd love to see an FAQ for those upgrading from 2020.
Best practices to stay safe, and provide a path if something goes wrong. (Life with brand new releases...)1 -
Awesome release and fantastic with the LUT support. Great Job.
Had hoped that white balance adjustments had made it as well as caption alignment (placement) on macOS.
2 -
For me, it installed alongside. I now have 4 versions of Camtasia installed.
No problems so far. In fact, it imported my existing libraries and assets and I can just jump in and use it, everything is there!

I'll be interested to see if it fixes/adds the issues/features I've been requesting for 5 years or so.
- Proxy Videos
- Reverse Video
- Adding MKV files into media bin without having to convert them first
- Fixing the 5+ year old bug with numbered video files where it adds them to the timeline in the wrong order (e.g. you have "video file 1.mp4", "video file 2.mp4", "video file 3.mp4", "video file 4.mp4", and "video file 5.mp4" which you add to the media bin and then highlight them all and right-click and select "add to timeline at playhead" and instead of adding them in the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 it adds them in a sequence like 3, 4, 5, 1, 2 and you have to drag the clips around adding new tracks, resorting, then removing the extra track. It *ALWAYS* happens and has wasted 20 seconds or so in every single video I've ever produced from Camtasia.

Hi Daniel;
This particular issue is something I'm currently looking into and will update this thread once I know more; in the meantime, would you be alright with me opening a ticket for you so we can dig into this?

Tried it - No reverse video, No adding of MKV files direct to Media Bin, No Fix of the numbered files (although kayakman's suggestion to never use drag/drop does workaround it).

OK, Installed and it is in Parallel. (Cool).
Please give us a new icon at some point on the desktop.
Loaded an existing 30 min video I had rendered yesterday. So far everything is working.
Previewed the new transitions. A major win, far more than previous versions and helpful to keep some additional visual interest... (Major when doing video tutorials... boring is the kiss of death...)
Mouse over the transitions (drag left/right) and you see a preview of the action. (NICE)
First impressions: All existing libraries loaded from 2020, current project loaded, with no adjustments for me. I'm sure that will NOT be the case for everybody.
Great start, more news as I finish the next 7 videos.1 -
@ DeeDee2
you can solve the bin/file number issue by using this file naming schema ...

Nice! The audio ducking should be a helpful feature. And is that line-height adjustment new in this release or have I just not noticed it before?

regarding proxy videos ...
How To Create Proxy Video 2021-04-27
https://www.screencast.com/t/Bue2eBRAvf0 -
kayakman Thanks, but sadly that doesn't work. I just renamed my 5 test files like this:
Video 2021-04-27 12-01.mp4
Video 2021-04-27 12-02.mp4
Video 2021-04-27 12-03.mp4
Video 2021-04-27 12-04.mp4
Video 2021-04-27 12-05.mp4
Added them to the media bin, highlighted them all, right-clicked on add to timeline at playhead and they appeared on the timeline in the order 03, 04, 05, 01, 02. They're in the right/logical order in the media bin - they just won't all add to the timeline in the right order.

Can't seem to find the Automatic Animation tool on the Mac. Where should I look for this?

Version 2021 looks great, but I cannot install it because I am still on High Sierra. Updating my 2020.0.6 (112633) version to the latest 2020 version makes the program unusable. Because of that, I had to install an older 2020 version. Is this already fixed?

Hey Ron, the Auto-Animate button is right next to the crop tool.

Thanks, Brooks! I just tried the Auto Animate tool and it is SLICK! Really speeds up animation creation.

With the Proxy files,
does this enhancement:
A) simply downgrade the resolution and/or data rate to make them smaller video files?
B) re-wrap the media in a different media container (e.g., pro-res) that is easier for an NLE to edit?
I imagine one of the reasons .trec files are so (comparatively smooth) to edit is the avi inside the .trec container.0 -
I saw the email on my phone, yesterday, about the new Camtasia 2021 and I was quite excited because I assumed that the new version would not have the ridiculous problem where you can't see the text edit cursor on a white background.
Of course, I was fiercely disappointed.
If anyone else is annoyed by this failing (it's not a bug, it's just bad development) please report it to support. I have reported it several times and have been told that they have no intention of fixing this.
Every single piece of software with a text editor (like MS Word and thousands of others) has a flashing black and white cursor. Camtasia is the only software on the planet where you cannot see the cursor on a white background.
I make several videos per week, in a variety of languages, and this problem slows us down every day.
Please help!

@ DeeDee2 ...
regarding your numbering schema/sorting issue, suggest you also insert a "-" between ALL values
also, I can only reproduce your issue if I change the sort order of the name field in the import dialog; with the setting at descending, importing a number of properly named files, when in bin where sort order is by name, and the files will be in proper order in bin; but will be out of order when added in bulk to timeline
I've also found that dragging/dropping the files into the editor can affect the sort-on-timeline outcome
my suggestions ... use a proper naming schema; keep import dialog name field sorted ascending, don't drag/drop
also, I have found that the time a clip is added to bin seems to affect these outcomes; at best, this behavior is a bit flaky; I've solved the issue for myself by strictly adhering to the above protocols

kayakman That solved it. More details in the standalone ticket I wrote this morning. I posted a screenshot of your answer above for context on how you led me to the answer.

paul Engle Proxies files take the original video file and transcode them into the cuneiform codec at 25% resolution.
As to why TREC files may perform differently, that's pretty complicated. Currently TREC files use our proprietary TSC2 codec. This codec is highly optimized for screen content. Screen content can often be way less complex than traditional camera footage (fewer pixels changing). That's a big difference in decoding performance. TSC2 is also decoded on the CPU rather than GPU which has it's own set of variability based on your system specs and load. I probably got this slightly wrong and the engineers will argue back and forth, but that's the general high level as I understand it. Sometimes it may be worth it to proxy the TREC given the complexity of the project, the media you are using, machine specs, and OS load--you are just going to have to experiment.1 -
Hi,
Like @Daniel said 2 days ago, it's really a problem to don't have access to the recording options.
I hope the team will be able to restore this option soon.

USE THE 2021 LEGACY RECORDER
you'll have everything
the new Recorder is a work-in-progress

Hi kayakman,
Where I find the legacy recorder? On the camtasia interface? Somewhere else?

I appreciate this insight. It seems that there are two processes: making the file size smaller and putting the video into a file format that is easier for your computer to edit. It sounds like this is the former, not the latter, unless the lower resolution reduces the strain on one's CPU.
I know H.264 and H.265 (both file formats meant for playback, not editing) made my computer slow to a crawl, but the situation was resolved when I put it into an .mov file format (or was it ProRes) that was more conducive to edit.
