Library Search by Year / Month / Day not in 2022 version
Pinned CompletedOne of the best features in Snag IT has been removed!!! You can no longer search by Year/Month/Day in the library. I have years of capture's and I could always find them easily with this feature. Although I have found I work around. I strongly recommend for you to add this feature back!

Hello again,
We will definitely be bringing back the Day/Month/Year filtering just as it was. The main hurdle we have at the moment is maintaining the performance improvements that were made in Snagit 2022's Library while also bringing this feature back into Snagit. We really appreciate the feedback and patience. Looking through the use cases here, it doesn't seem like we need to change the Day/Month/Year filtering behavior from what it once was. That's been very helpful.

Edit 2/22/22: We've released version 2022.0.2 and the date folders in the library are back!

Thanks for bringing this up, Ed. When bringing the new Cloud Library and cross-platform file format to Snagit 2022, we did a look at what features folks were using and filtering/browsing by year/month/day was quite infrequently used. This is when we were looking at what should and should not be re-implemented with these two features. The decision was made at that point to prioritize year/month/day filtering low based on the usage data and the lack of interest in it from the betas that we ran with folks this Summer and Fall.
That all said, I'm reviewing more recent usage information and it's definitely increased since we made that decision. I'll revisit this with our team and update this thread when I know more about our plans.
If anyone else utilized the year/month/day filtering often, we'd also like to hear that, so please let us know here. Also knowing if the previous solution was lacking at all would be good to know. Any issues with the way this was implemented before?

Thank you very much for the prompt response. I have SnagIT data all the way back to 2016! In development I often take screen shots of crashes and other events, Then in the future it is really easy to look back and find an issue by Month/Year. I do have a work around but would GREATLY prefer if this feature were added back. The work around only works when I use the default names for captures (Capture name begins with Year/Month/Day). In the 2022 version I filter on "images" and then input the year-month "2020-12" in the search box and I can find captures by Year/Month. I think SnagIT is great because it is so simple and fast to use.

I was very sad to see that this feature is not implemented. It's still a mess of data and i cannot fast find e.g. a file i year xx in Januar for example. Please implement it. Thank Torsten

@ ed, what is the workaround?
2 -
Workaround:
1)Select "Date Created" to sort by that date
2) Click on images on the left side of the library
3) Put in the Year and or Month and Date
4)The captures will for that date will be show

Great😃 that works for me. Not so comfortable but nice. Thank u very much 😃 greets Torsten

Great, glad to help. I agree, they should still add back the original feature!

Yes...this is a very desirable feature ... viewing screen captures by week. You can go back in time by week and see which captures you did. You can view them all as a group. I send out a weekly email of cartoons and words of wisdom to a bunch of folks ... so I rely on being able to see what I saved over the last WEEK or so. People who capture a lot of images or material want to go back in chronological order...YOU already have the timestamp on every image. Easy function to put back!
Suggest you read "Putting Your Customers' Needs First - A Fifty-Year Journey" that details my career from my college days at UT at Knoxville through my retirement in 2013. Here is a link to the online book: https://cld.bz/Aqnifuu It will explain why YOU need to make your product the EASIEST to use and the most FUNCTIONAL. Simply having features based solely on NUMBER of user is NOT ALWAYS the best way to decide which features are most IMPORTANT! Hopefully, you will get this feature added back sooner than later!!!

I need the Year/Month/Day library feature bot back in as well or my usage of Snagit will be signficantly hampered. Can't believe you did this...

What happened to my list of tags when i go to tag an image? What is going on?
3 -
I also miss this feature and ask to implement it again.
5 -
Please add it back, this is the best feature and I cannot use Snagit without it. Developers will be very dissapointed I think.

I was really shocked today when I updated my SnagIt to version 2022. Didn't find the old library view anymore and your support team pointed me to this thread here.
I really can't believe that you decided to remove this. Really, please re-implement that in a way that we can configure it as our default view.
Chris Larson you asked that in your post: From my point of view, you can re-implement it just as it was before - no change needed. But in general - if you could make accessing the library at all a bit easier than before, that would be nice. Currently you have to scroll to the end of the list of screenshots at the bottom of the editor window to get the "Library" Button. Maybe you could implement the button on that small frame between the editor window and the screenshot list?
Thanks, Martin

Thank you for the feedback!
We’ll keep that in mind for getting to the Library more easily. There is also a smaller text button at the top left of Editor that shouldn’t require scrolling that can take you there as well. But I realize it’s not with all the other Captures in the Tray so it’s a bit detached from that area.

Yes, please bring it back just as it was in the previous version.
I can't be bothered to tag stuff as an extra step, and a lot of my work screenshots (working on a video game) are from same application and often subtly different only, so its hard to browse them visually in one big view.
I do however generally remember easily from roughly _when_ they were, simply because they were relevant for certain milestones/months/years of the project.
I was using this basically daily to find older stuff quickly by narrowing it down using y/m/d filters, mainly to paste to someone in chat and now will have to basically keep using the older version in the worst case if I find this slows me down too much over the next week.6 -
Thanks, Chris. Much more important than the button: THE LIBRARY VIEW GROUPED BY DATE ;-)

Thanks to this chat, I will wait with my update to the new version - this option is also very important to me. Hopefully the update will come in the foreseeable future!

I use this by date all the time-- please add it back!!! :(

I like the OneDrive integration, but I agree with everyone here. Please bring back the year/month filtering.

Hi Chris,
I somehow stumbled over these posts, as in German the "Library" is named "Bibliothek" - and not found in Support-Files. Im snagging Screenshots whenever things may fail - like Bank-Transfers or buying or selling stuff. Also when realy errors happen in installation of software. An the intuitive order of the library was a great help for reviewing and commenting, WHAT happened in these days. Remind: I do not exactly remember, on which day or even time that was, but browwing i.e. in October 2021 I always could find these issues. An the non-persistent markup with Boxes and Text is perfect.
SO PLEASE bring back that FEATURE. I will think to stop using 2022 and go back to 2021. All that Cloud-Stuff is not interesting for me. If I want to send the data to others, that is ok, but not for my library.7 -
Please,Please bring back dates. I can't find anything any more...

I'm really sorry I updated to the 2022 version. I've used SnagIt - it seems - forever and had many years of important screen shots and captures from scans captured in the library. The sorting by month within a year was absolutely valuable. Now my 'library' is just a pile of worthless pictures since my accustomed way of using them has been lost. Please bring back that structure in the next update. I don't want to go back to the 2021 version, but it may be my only solution.
5 -
Same for me.
Please reimplement the date in library tree view, like is was in Snagit 2021!
I'm having only trouble with 2022 version.
SNAG files were not converted during installation and later batch conversion overwrites the date attributes and tags get lost.
Very sad.
I opened a ticket, but if this all is not solved quickly, I will go back to 2021 version and quit my service contract.8 -
Losing this feature is making me crazy! I'm in the middle of writing a very large training manual, and not being able to quickly jump back to a specific date of screenshots is making my life hell right now! I'm tempted to revert back to SnagIt 2021!! PLEASE BRING THIS FEATURE BACK!
8 -
Please bring it back! I completely agree with Ed Schwartz here on all points. I've been using Snagit since 2016 personally, and it's very frustrating to see certain features removed without consulting with the user group. Whereas usability statistics is a good source of data and feedback, it doesn't reflect the interests of all users, especially those who have huge collections of data gathered over years. I often take screenshots of crashes and other events as well for documenting and blogging, and it was really easy to look back and find an issue by Month/Year or reconcile with the blog post date in case the article or documentation needs an update.
Adding tags would have been another good feature, but this is a subject for a separate discussion.
I'm looking forward to seeing this feature returned asap.

Without the feature I will not change to 2022 ... furthermore it ist not possible to search for pictures with no tasks .....details can not be shown in the editor ... was the development really ready for release?!

TechSmith deserves a black eye for so badly misreading their faithful Snagit user base concerning the day/month/year library lookup issue. Throwing something against the wall in a release to see what sticks is now like other software vendors. I had always considered the snagit development team better than that. Just counting usage numbers is not good enough.
6 -
Apart from the date, it seems bad to me that the list of tags or applications can no longer be seen to simply be able to select them and that the images appear.
But this was strange to me because after installation I couldn't see the date tree but once I closed snagit 2022 and reopened it, it was all there again. It was after I started the 2021 version by mistake, closed it and reopened the 2022 version, it was then that the tree of dates, applications or tags did not appear again.

I just got the un-wellcome supprise ! Please bring back the year/month/day ability to keep track of my entries to the library. What were you thinking.
A heads up would have gone a long way. You called out all the new additions but found it not worth your time to let us know what you were taking away. What about OUR TIME ? JUST FIX IT please.
