Video/Audio Clip - Audio Begins before Video Appears after trimming MP4

I added an MP4 clip to my project and the project played fine.

I then needed to trim the first few seconds off the start of the clip.  After doing this, when I played the video, the video was invisible until a second or two after the audio began.

I tried separating the audio and video into separate tracks and that didn't solve the problem.

Why is this happening, and how can I work around this issue?
