    I get this exact same error (Windows 11) - 2021 worked perfectly, but the 2022 upgrade has broken it and no amount of uninstalling will get them running.

    Version 2022.0.0.14133 works for me, but if I "update" to version 2022.1.0.20078 I get the "Unable to run..." error. I've been working with techsupport for over a week now with no joy. Send them a ticket. The more folks that have this problem and report it, the greater chances are that techsupport will be able to fix it.

    Support suggested the following, which for me worked perfectly:

    1. Close Snagit including this error message
    2. Open the following folder: C:\Users\Public\TechSmith
    3. Delete the Snagit folder
    4. Try again to open Snagit

    Haven't had any problems since then.

    I don't think you understand.

    I cannot install version 2022.1.0.20078. It comes up with an error.

    I can, and I have, installed version 2022.0.0.14133. It runs fine.

    I don't think you understand.

    I could not install 2022.1.0.20078 either. It came up with that error constantly.

    Doing the above fixed it. It now runs fine.

    My Computer Specs:

    * HP Pavilion Desktop 510-p114
    * Windows 10 Home 21H2 19044.1766
    * Firefox 102.0.0 - NoScript 11.4.6)

    Well, I did EXACTLY what you described, and still could not successfully install it. Actually, I've done what you described more than once over the last couple of weeks.

    However today, I did finally get version 2022.1.0.20078 to install successfully. FINALLY. If you're interested, here's how I did it:

    1. Using the Control Panel "Programs and Features" I uninstalled BOTH instances of Snagit. I don't know why there were two instances, but every time I tried to install version 20078 on top of version 141133, the installation fails, and two installations appear in "Programs and Features". One is 1.1 GB and the other is 1.18 GB in size.  I have to go through a bunch of computer contortions (like using Revo Uninstaller) to get rid of them.

    2. Next, I deleted all folders on my C: drive that were named "TechSmith" and I mean ALL of them. The Control Panel left a lot of junk behind and it took awhile to locate and delete them.

    3. I did not muck around in the Registry.

    4. Then, with every TechSmith folder removed from my C: drive, I  rebooted the computer and installed Snagit 2022.1.0.20078 successfully.

    Beats me why TechSmith's technical support was not able to help in spite of all the back-and-forth, "send-me-this", "send-me-that", "download-this-and-send-me-the-results" since June 16 when I originally reported the problem.

    I've been working with PCs since 1982 and with one exception, I never had a problem that took as long to fix as this Snagit problem. (That exception was CorelDraw Version 12.)

    There is definitely a problem installing version 2022.1.0.200078 on top of version 2022.0.0.14113 and in my opinion, TechSmith has an obligation duty to fix it.

    At least I got Snagit installed. We'll see how long it will run before it fails, as others have reported.

    Went back and followed the steps from the RDavey post to:

    Support suggested the following, which for me worked perfectly:

    1. Close Snagit including this error message
    2. Open the following folder: C:\Users\Public\TechSmith
    3. Delete the Snagit folder
    4. Try again to open Snagit

    Haven't had any problems since then"

    Finally, Snagit 2022 installs/opens without error messages. Still have 2021 installed and at this point not going to uninstall and jinx the whole thing. 2022 works, opens, captures, and all. Following the old advice, 'leave well enough alone'

    Thanks, RDavey
