can you be more specific with what you mean by "unacceptably slow"?

perhaps document you editing an example project in a screencast, hosted on screencast.com, so we can see what might be happening?

many editing performance issues can be caused by project-specific things

I use a 10 year old i5 Thinkpad with 8 GB RAM and small SSD; I work in Camtasia several hours every day, and the old laptop it runs Camtasia 2022 just fine

    Sascha Lorenz,

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

    https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

Unless things have changed, you can activate an older version of Camtasia using your 2022 key.

You can have more than one version of Camtasia on the same computer.

I would keep 2022 installed and open a support ticket.

Then use 2021 or your favorite version until 2022 runs better on your machine.

To be honest. It's all slow. Sorry, I don't know where to start sharing.

Starting the program, importing media, moving media, applying effects, the sound is horribly distorted, when I play in preview and while Camtasia is running, nothing else works on my computer.

Do you have a huge graphics card in your computer? It really can't be due to my other resources.

Maybe I have "solved" it. Modern notebooks have more than one graphics card. For energy saving reasons.

And at least with my current Windows 10, I have now explicitly told it to run Camtasia Studio with my second NVIDIA.

You find the setting under settings and then display. You find the setting under Settings, then Display and there Graphic settings. There select your CamtasiaStudio.exe via Browse and select the maximum performance with your 2nd card in the Options menu. And just to be sure, check in Camtasia itself to see if your better card is even selected!

It feels like Camtasi's UI is faster now. I will now see if it helps with more complex processes. Or whether the system freezes again.

    Sascha Lorenz,

If you could follow up I would appreciate it.

I have seen similar problems reported in the past with dual graphics card laptops.

    I DO AGREE.

and the worst thing is that rendering video of 11 minutes takes 31 minutes

I'd like to push this thread. It seems nobody at TechSmith has noticed these complaints. Tech support keeps telling me that the problem is my project files being located at the D: partition instead of C: or my RME audio interface. Still, Camtasia 2021 works perfectly smooth on the exact same system. Version 2022, however, as you describe, is unusably slow.

Either tech support does not know anything about actual known issues or nobody at TechSmith reads in these forum threads. I've mentioned these problems several times in the last months and every time they sounded as they've heard this for the first time.

tech support, as a general rule, does not monitor this forum

issues should be directly addressed to them using the button at lower right corner on this browser page

what would be helpful would be for you to do a 2022 project that demonstrates exactly what you have issues with in 2022; document a demonstration of the issues in a screencast hosted on screencast.com

then down-version that project to 2021 and document, in the same way on screencast.com, you not experiencing those exact same issues in 2021

share links to those screencasts here so we can help evaluate the problem

you should also file a report with tech support, sharing those screencast links with them

tech support, as a general rule, does not monitor this forum

It's sufficient if anybody in the company monitors this forum and makes sure QA / development knows about those issues. If tech support has access to the ticket system / bug tracker etc., they should be aware of any known issues related to the new version.

you should also file a report with tech support, sharing those screencast links with them

Yes, I'm aware of all necessary steps (repro steps/video, sample projects) and I'm happy to provide everything required to reproduce these issues. But tech support should really stop looking through the diagnostic files and coming up with the first "unusual" find and claim that could be the source of the problem, instead of actually investigating the problem (for example by requesting project files and repro steps). I've had about 10 support cases in the last 3 years and in almost all of them I was told great nonsense ("it's one of my USB devices.... it's the audio interfacs... it's programs in the autostart folder..."). And a few maintenance versions later, the bugs in Camtasia were finally fixed.

I don't know if this will help anyone. Recently, I accidentally figured out how to fix my slowness issues in 2021. (I have to test in v2022 yet).  After I cut a portion from a video, I merge the caption with the previous caption, which "re-attaches" it to the original caption. I then split the merged caption into 2 separate captions, so the captions match the video. I found out that too many cuts in the caption slow everything down!

After I accidentally did this, I noticed that when editing, I no longer got the unending spinning cursor, and playback worked without garbled, slow sound.

thanks for the input re captions

captions in a project can definitely affect editing performance

accordingly, I recommend that captions be the last items added to a project, after all other editing has been completed

if you do a lot of captioning, check out the Camtasia-Audiate tag team

The problem i am having is this. The more Splits I make the more laggy it gets. It gets laggy very quicky, within maybe 1 or 2 minutes of editing its already so laggy there is a good pause inbetween every split. The only way to fix this is to restart the program. This is unusable. I edit the same style videos, highly edited, and using a lot of cuts/animation/pretty much everything in the program for literally years on camtasia 9 with absolutely no problem. Pretty muhc no lag until the video is almost complete, at which point, there are literally hundreds of splits, on camtasia 9, but I switch to 2022, and I can barely do 10 before It becomes noticably laggy. I only upgraded for the new features, which by the way are amazing, I see an immediat increase in quality from camtasia 9, but at this point, its better to just refund 2022. I cannot edit a 20 to 30 minute long highly edited video if the program stutters every time I split. I dont know if this is an easily fixable issue but as of now, this is very annoying.

By the way the only thing I was makign the splits on was an audio file. Thats the only file in the program, its not like a massive video file, and it gets incredibly laggy very quickly.

You have 30 days to request a refund.

    You can contact support also.

2022 consumes more system resources than previous versions. The thing is, a project created in 2020 or 2021 that runs smoothly in those programs. Won't in 2022, using the exact files, effects, etc.

I could suggest you keep 2022 and run 2020 or 2021 for the new features. But its kinda suggesting you rip yourself off and settle for less than you paid for.

I upgraded in June, so more than 30 days ago. Support couldn't offer any solution and couldn't offer a refund either.

They never officially confirmed that. So I'm still waiting for improvements. Things can be optimized. If new features that are optional will consume more system resources, that's fine. But the overall UI shouldn't be that laggy. And it would be good if TechSmith would respond to all the feedback. Each time I contact support, it's like they've never heard about these problems.

what is the audio file?  file type, source?

You can install any previous version of Camtasia you wish and activate it with your 2022 key.

If you were able to edit the files in Camtasia 9, odds are you can in 2021 and previous versions without the grief 2022 is giving you.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

It is .wav file type and in /c. I think this is what youre refering to. Its simply a commentary. Btw I know I could use the older ones but honestly I was thinking for the 140 bucks I paid to upgrade, I might as well refund, and pick up premire pro, just learn that finally and stop putting it off.

I thought my PC would be good enough but jsut incase I am being stupid, my pc is:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz   3.00 GHz

    16gb ram

    2070 super

are you able to share that WAV so we could test it?

You said its to late to get a refund, 30 days had elapse since you purchased the program.

You said you edited the same in Camtasia 9.

Camtasia 2022 has similar bugs reported multiple times in this forum. Edits / cuts lead to poor performance.

Your computer specs are more than adequate.

Camtasia 2021 has a majority of the new features available.

Or, you can try converting your audio to another format, keep using Camtasia 2022.

I try to keep things simple, adding additional steps just to get started, is a productivity killer.

    I have the same problem

"In the case of working on a large project, there is a crash in the program; it takes a lot of time to execute commands such as cut and save or any other command. I repeat in the case of large projects only. In issuing Camtasia 2022

The delay occurs only in the cut and split tool for 10 seconds per order

And here I thought I was going crazy since I didn't read anything like this coming from someone else...
Camtasia 2022 is borderline unusable. Skipping a Frame takes about 5 Seconds to load and just playing the Video in Preview runs in about 1 fps. I can barely edit anything without the Program crashing. It's hard to imagine how you'd even go about making a new Version that much worse but here we are. Sent multiple Tickets, including Video Footage, but I've never had a positive Experience with Camtasia Support so I highly doubt they'll improve anything, let alone communicate that there are Problems out there.
I'm also baffled that they still didn't fix the auto-normalize loudness "feature" (that if you turn it off in the Settings, it's still turned on by Default but the Button just gets greyed out instead so you basically just cripple yourself by changing the Settings)
