Privacy concern: Snagit continues to use microphone after video recorded ended

I use micro snitch utility to detect when app start use my camera or microphone. Lately, when I start recording a video with voiceover using snagit, it correctly starts to use my microphone. However, when I stop recording it continues to use the microphone even though I'm not recording anything anymore. So I have to restart the app so it doesn't spy on me (I don't think it does and I do believe it's just a bug, but still), which is annoying. Not even mentioning that constant use of microphone drains battery for no reason

Thanks for reaching out to us. First off I want to say we're definitely not spying on you! This is likely a bug with the cleanup after you finish recording, I'll pass this information along to the development team.

I was able to reproduce this issue once out of 4 recordings I tried. Is this happening to you every time? What versions of Snagit and macOS are you running?

Thanks again for reporting this, we've fixed this in today's 2020.1.3 update, let us know if you see anything off with this new version.

This bug is evident in the new 2022 version as well. I wasn't even recording a video and the next thing I know, Snagit is accessing the microphone. I had to quit the helper and restart it to get it to stop.

So I have to buy 2022 in order to have this issue fixed? You keep accessing my microphone even after I tell Bitdefender not to allow it. This is looking more malicious than some random bug.

Hi Toddmossusa,

This is also fixed in 2021, there was just a little confusion it it returning in 2022 because the fix came after we stopped development on 2022.0.0, but it is fixed in both 2021 and 2022.

Updated to latest today, the minute the new installation started Bitdefender told me Snagit uses the mic. Im not even using the application, it just sits in the tray and still using the mic.

Not acceptable, what is going on?

Hi Ankargren,

Do you see Snagit appearing in control center on your Mac? If so, we will want to investigate why, this should never be happening outside of a video recording in the latest version.

I am using Version 2020.2.0 (96056) on Mac Moterey 12.4 and I see that Snagit is using my microphone on the Control Center and I'm not currently using it. Even if I quit the desktop app and only the Snagit shortcut on the top bar is visible. Which by the way, how do I even quit the top bar shortcut version? I dont want to use Snagit if my microphone is being accessed

Sorry about this! I believe this was a bug that should be fixed now, try updating to 2020.2.5 and see if that fixes this for you.
