2020: Still no gradient?
It's been asked many times, since 7 years ago (or more)
I know is not a programming difficulty, as every free-mobile-kid-app has gradients... So I'm still intrigued by te reason techsmith refuses to hear this request.
perhaps they think it will not add value, and make the app less "serious"?
Any inside answer would help many of us sleep better.

I believe a paragraph in this thread dating back over 2 years, sheds some light on your inquiry.

We want Snagit to be the tool that makes it easy for people who understand a technology or interface to visually explain and document it for people who don’t. Capabilities that further that goal are higher up the priority list than those that would take us in a different direction.
The post is an unrelated topic, but the jest of the mindset just the same.From my perspective.

I could not agree more. SnagIt is SOOOO close to being a useful graphics tool for people who want some slightly advanced capabilities but aren't going to become photoshop gurus. Gradiant fill would be huge win (and opacity).

Gradient fill DOES add benefit for this very purpose. I take screenshots a lot for documentation at work, and I often have to hide confidential or proprietary information before placing it in the document. A lot of user interfaces have a gradient background, and since I can't replicate that in a fill the cover up stands out. I hate having to go to another application just to cover up those few bits.
I LOVE SnagIt and Camtasia, but this is one big annoyance.3 -

I totally agree and describe it that way when I recommend it. ericgr They do have opacity in the Effects area under Filters.1 -
I woulda thought that snagit had a gradient tool too. I like the product but miss that. So I end up going to other tools to get certain things done. Bummer.

Wait, what? Wasn't this in MS Paint in 1986? How is this not in SnagIt?

Agreed, gradient fills are very useful and should be included as a feature. Many of us use Snagit as a simple but effective markup tool for images used in documentation. Should not be considered an "advanced" feature, but a basic feature, just like opacity.
