    Hi jacques.lecavalier

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! As Snagit crashes can be caused by many things (bugs within the app, incompatible hardware, conflicting software, bad drivers, etc.), the best course of action is to get in touch with our Technical Support team. If you'd like, I can create a ticket for you (or anyone in this ticket that would like Technical Support) so we can work towards addressing this?

Same here. When I hit "Print Screen" button Snagit first hangs makes my PC slow then crashes.

I manually kill the Snagit and SnagitEditor processes from task manager. Re-open than use. Everything is okay until here. Then i minimize to taskbar and after a while (for example 30-60 min.) if i hit the print screen button PC freezes snagit also freezes. Had to kill again.

So, I'm using ShareX for now.

Same issue. Though I can also recreate the crash when capture error, if I have Bluebeam Revu open.  I'm half guessing it could be related to any program that has some built in "screen capture" feature?

I have ShareX installed side-by-side. I use ShareX's Capture Color on Screen feature (Screen Color Picker) and all screenshot related hotkeys are disabled. I use like this since 2 years but it started to happens when I upgraded to Snagit 2021.2.0. Before 2 years, I was using side-by-side with PicPick. Which also enabled as a color picker only. If there was a collision between these apps and Snagit, It would happen since 2-3 years.

However, Yes, There might be the reason but whatever it is, it happens after the last update.

Hopefully, After 10-50 years from now, If TechSmith decide to add screen color picker hotkey and feature, I might stop using 3rd party apps with Snagit. Almost Every single screen capture app has this feature except Snagit.

I have experienced many Snagit Editor 2021 crashes as well, specifically when I try to close the program with an unsaved image displayed. If I reply "No" to the save dialog, the editor crashes consistently.

It is frustrating that TechSmith does not seem to be monitoring these forums and offering any responses or support. I have been using TechSmith software for a very long time and was a satisfied customer, but am considering moving on to other tools/suppliers that actually provide support.

I'm editing my post because my previous description wasn't 100% accurate. It wasn't a 'fresh' load of Windows 10, it was a fresh load of Windows 10 + a bunch of open source tools I get from Ninite on every fresh load of the OS.

I just reloaded the OS again and loaded SnagIt 2021 2nd. So it was truly a fresh installation of the OS and SnagIt 2021 ran without complaint.

I am not going through the installation of all my tools and if I find one that conflicts with Snagit, I'll post that.

I have the same issue Snagit crashes since Windows 10 build 21301.  Now on build 21322 and I've tried SnagIt 2020 and 20921 with same result.  Crashes every time I try to screen capture.

I'm not seeing any updates to this, but the problem persists.  Capture is completely unusable.  Crashes each and every time I press the big red button.

  • CharlesKWaters

Frederick, My problem has been resolved.

I uninstalled Snagit and reinstalled it once, and this did not help.
I uninstalled Snagit again and reinstalled, and everything is working. This is not an ideal solution, but it worked for me.

  • Denise Wilson

I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 4 times with reboots and cleanups.  installs, then locks up then fails/suspends.  Yes I have a tech support ticket but I am now 3 days dead in the water.  Its a multiuser license. Non one else on my team has an issues. there is no security issue.  sigh

  • Frederick Wood

    I'm running Windows 10 Pro / Dev Channel / OS Build - 21364.1

As of the update to Snagit 2021.3.0.9201 this week (installed over top of previous version) I am now back up and running and have had no crashes for a couple of days.

  • Denise Wilson

I finally fixed it. It turned out that when I did another uninstall/reinstall and this time told it to DELETE files, not keep them.  It worked. I suspect it was a bad file or something. Also, first time I launched, I started with running Snagit Capture App from start menu. Thanks

Just had SnagIt 2021 editor stop working for a user. The editor itself would load but then crash.

After an uninstall/reinstall it worked fine until the user restarted.

To resolve the issue I started task manger and ended snagit.exe. Then I renamed both "TechSmith" folders under c:\users\(username)\appdata\local and appdata\roaming to "TechSmith.old". Then I had the user restart.

Upon loading windows Snagit asked to recreate these folders (Use Default Location) and then the Editor was fixed.

Then I opened up the editor and went to File ---> Open. Then selected all the old captures in the old datastore folder (c:\users\(username)\appdata\local\techsmith.old\snagit\datastore) to reimport them into the editor. Do not try to open/restore/import the .sdf file, this used to be the file that caused issues in the older versions of SnagIt.

I was able to fix my issue by following a solution that helped solve the windows Snipping Tool from having issues as well.

    My Scenario

    • Multiple Screens (laptop + 43" ultra wide external monitor + 30" external monitor)
    • Every time I attempted to take a screen shot with Snagit, snagit would crash

    Things tried

    • Uninstall / reinstall of Snagit : didn't work
    • Changing the shortcut key in case there was a conflict: didn't work
    • Reviewed any other solution that may be using clipboard and close it: didn't work

    • I finally set my laptop monitor as my primary monitor
    • Rebooted my machine
    • Fixed
